6.6.26 Conference. Recreation. 14. Lobster. Flower. Grass. Pork.
Retired/Missionary Life. Sunday.
HAPPY SABBATH!! Here! Have a Jesus Picture! He LOVES YOU!!
Special Church meeting today! We had Stake Conference where we met together with about ten other congregations to hear our leaders give talks that were uplifting and informative. Always a great time!
Afterwards and back home, I ate leftover hamburgers, hot dogs and potato salad for lunch. Took a nice long nap. Read and studied. And we ended the night by watching an episode of Heartland.
Great day of rest! Hope yours was good too!
Retired/Missionary Life. Monday.
Preparation and Recreation Day!
The day in pictures:
- Hanna swept the floor. The result was a pile of golden fir almost as large as our dog itself. (Gussy is proud of it and wonders if it is edible...)
- We worked on the scooters while the boys stayed inside their invisible fence and watched patiently. (Except Gussy did eventually escape...)
- Technically, we were grounded to the house until the FedEx Dude delivered Hanna's expensive and deadly chemotherapy pills. Luckily, he didn't come too late in the day. Freedom!!
- Just a small white box. Expensive and deadly contents.
- While waiting, we planned our week, made up menus, created a shopping list. Then when freedom hit, we drove to Red Tail for some ribs and a salad.
- Before and after picture......
- We walked the calories off on the Trail of the CDAs.
- We picked up the groceries. And drove home. And brought them in. And put them away.
- We spent the evening watching a pre-recorded football game (ISU beat Cal Poly in the minidome....) and tuned into a mission-wide Zoom Call to receive counsel and teaching and testimonies from other missionaries and our leaders.
-And finally, we were amused by the recreation our Spanish District had......a hike at Bowl and Pitcher. Great missionaries! And yes, there are more Sisters than Elders.....
Retired/Missionary Life. Tuesday.
14 years ago today, we got married!!!
So, how did we celebrate??? By going to an all-day Missionary Zone Conference!! Woo Hoo!!
Actually, there is no place we would rather be. Seriously. When we married, we devoted our new marriage to service and missions and taking care of each other. So, yes, it was very fitting to attend an all-day conference with about 75 other missionaries where we talked about providing service and taking care of our companions. During our 14 years, we have sent four of our children into the mission field and are currently serving our second mission.
- I'm always amused by the long line of mission cars at these conferences. And secretly, I express thanks that I'm NOT the car coordinator dude!
- The missionaries from the Swahili Branch sang a Swahili hymn to us about the atonement of Jesus Christ, including wrapping on the pulpit like it was a drum. Very awesome and the spirit was strong! The Swahili branch has about 120 folks attending it now and is growing fast! In addition to them and two Spanish branches, our mission also has a Marshallese Ward, a Chukeese Group, and a Slavic Group.
- One of the breakout lessons involved Fortune Cookies (long story on how it did........just trust me.) Here's a picture of ours, which Hanna believes ties into our Anniversary.
- On the way home, we hiked in the grass and took about 8 ticks back home with us. (This is the new Ticksville!! My children likely remember the original one.........)
- And the traditional wild critter at the Highlands. (Busy place lately).
No worries. We have plans to celebrate 14 years tomorrow. Stay tuned!
Retired/Missionary Life. Wednesday.
Anniversary Celebration Day!! And you all thought we would forget.......
- Someone snuck into the house and wrote graffiti on my mirror! "God smiled on me the day you got down on 1 knee." They also plastered pink hearts all over my computer!
- We started the afternoon off by celebrating in conjunction with a Spanish Lesson with the Elders at the Tutor's home. No perfect score for me today....
- Anniversary Dinner at Clinkerdaggers. Scrumptious grub! Pea Salad for her, clam chowder for me. Prime Rib and Lobster for me, Salmon for her. And then Cream Broulet to share!
- She looks good in the dress she wore to our wedding reception 14 years ago. I tried to wear a tie that matched and included my "dapper" suspenders.
Here's to 14 more!
Retired/Missionary Life. Thursday.
1. Drove to Post Falls for Hanna's monthly cancer infusion and check up. New nurse there had "flower" bandaids which made Hanna very happy.
2. Gassed up with cheaper Idaho gas.
3. Left the fine state of Idaho. Got the oil changed on the truck at Jiffy Lube. Ate sack lunch sandwiches in the truck while we waited in line.
4. Took a walk on the Centennial Trail. (This was the boys' favorite part of the day!)
5. Worshipped in the temple. (Peace and calm).
6. Met up with our Branch's Elders at that Fancy Like Place for some good grub. All three of them ordered the "all-you-can" eat special. These guys can eat! They each got two refills of comfort food and fries. (We love seeing missionaries that are not hungry!) Plus it was good uplifting conversation.
7. Young moose visiting the Highlands. Look at all that grass! No wonder............
Retired/Missionary Life. Friday.
First thing, we declared it "old people go to breakfast" day. I get a break from fixing breakfast and it always tastes better if I don't have to cook it. We went to Red Tail. Yes, it included several rounds of Book of Mormon Rummy.
And before coming back home, we filled up with cheaper Idaho gas and walked on the Trail of the CDAs.
It was then chore day at home. I spent most of my time mowing the lawn, trimming weeds and tall grass, moving sprinkler hoses, and paying some bills and doing some financial stuff.
And here, have a bunch of various pictures of various other things including Gus, who is very cute (most of the time), Hanna's flower garden, and a bunch of pictures from Tuesday's Missionary Zone Conference. (Can you find us in there??)
Retired/Missionary Life. Saturday.
Day to get stuff done around the house and spend time with family.
I spent time draining, cleaning, sanitizing, and refilling the hot tub. Also working some on the family budget. Dealing with dead Scooters, nonresponsive doctors, and other similar stuff. Hanna spent most of her day in her flower garden.
In the evening, Del and Ella came over for a pork chop dinner and a great visit. We put him to work on a couple of minor repairs before they headed back home. We appreciate the help!
