1.10.26 P Day. Not Taco Time. Snow.

 Retired/Missionary Life. Sunday.

Happy Sabbath! Here! Have a Jesus Picture! He loves little kids....and He loves you too!
Church went as usual. Sacrament Meeting. Sunday School. Missionary Correlation Meeting. We had the possibility of teaching two lessons after church, but both fell thru. One was sick, the other just couldn't. That's how it goes sometimes.
The excitement today was that the mission is forming a Spanish District for all the Spanish Missionaries to meet weekly with each other. Great news! The work is hastening!
Back at home, we studied, read, watched church videos, went through the roster of families in our congregation and decided which ones need a visit this week.
And then, keeping with our football movie theme, we watched "Facing the Giants". Great movie about overcoming odds with God's help. And never ever giving up. Right up my alley!
"With God, all things are possible."
And also, here, have a picture of a deer. Just because one was taken yesterday. Enjoy!

Retired/Missionary Life. Monday.
Preparation and Recreation Day.
We just keep eating all our food...so...we planned out our week, prepared nutritious menus, made up a shopping list, drove to Plummer, played rummy and ate salads at The Gateway, walked on the Trail of the CDAs (yea!! the trail was dry!! the boys were extremely happy!!), topped off with cheap Idaho gas, bought the groceries, drove home, brought everything in, put everything away.
Did the reading and studying gig after that. And then watched the FCS National Championship Football Game. Great game! It went into OT. FCS football rocks. Montana State for the win!
At 9, we joined a mission-wide Zoom call to hear some testimonies and receive instruction from our Mission President.

Retired/Missionary Life. Tuesday.
Happy Three Kings Day!!
Spent the morning in studies and such.
Afternoon, we headed to town (in the blizzard). We taught three lessons! Symbolisms of the Temple, The Importance of Scripture Study, and The Plan of Salvation.
One of the families also fed us dinner. Chicken Mole with rice! Now, when you eat dinner with the Latino Families in our Branch, it isn't like a trip to Taco Time. It is real authentic, home-cooked (with love and care) Mexican food. And it was DELICIOUS!! (Bonus! They sent us home with leftovers!!) We also got cultured, which is always a fun and good thing. To celebrate Three Kings Day (celebrating the arrival of the Wise Men to the Christ Child), we also ate Rosca De Reyes, which was sweet and delicious, served with Hot Cocoa.
Here's some info on what I'm talking about (thanks Grok):
Rosco de Reyes is an oval or ring-shaped sweet bread flavored with orange zest or blossom water, and decorated with colorful candied fruits (representing the jewels on the kings' crowns) and strips of sugar paste.
A key tradition involves hiding one or more small plastic figurines of the baby Jesus inside the bread—symbolizing how Jesus was hidden from King Herod. Whoever finds the figurine in their slice is obligated to host a tamale party on February 2 (Día de la Candelaria).
Families often share it with hot chocolate or atole.
Hanna drew one of the figurines! I for one am looking forward to her tamale dinner on February 2nd!! Putting it on the menu right now.....
Fun night! Great family! Missionary work is always an adventure! (And can be very tasty!)

Retired/Missionary Life. Wednesday.
Highlights:
- The Banner Fuel guy came and filled up our propane tank.
- Hanna made brownies to hand out to members of our congregation tonight.
- We drove to town to try to visit some members of our congregation and find someone to teach (and give them brownies). And got caught in a blizzard.
- She thinks our tracks in the snow are cute. (Best companionship ever!)
- Once home (which took forever with the blinding snow) the boys couldn't wait to go outside and play in it.
- Tomorrow will begin with some snowplowing...

Retired/Missionary Life. Thursday.
Today was reserved for Mission Housing Business, but things are pretty much caught up, so it turned into a day of getting stuff done around the house.
Frivvy was excited that there was still snow out when he got up.
Taco Omelettes for breakfast.
Good day to plow snow.
Picture of Gussy with both his bone and Frivvy's. He thinks he needs them all...
Great Palouse Winter sunset tonight.
And the Sisters we serve with in the Spanish Congregation came out for a visit. They helped us take down all the Christmas decorations and put them away, and then we had a dinner of Pork Chops. And a message too even. They love Frivvy and Gus. We love serving with these younger missionaries. They are doing so much good and sacrificing so much!
After the excitement, we watched the "tape delayed" version of the CFP game. Another great football game!! Two in a row....
And before bed time, we joined in a mission-wide Zoom Meeting in which they announced who the new Idaho CDA mission president will be. And swore us to secrecy until it is released tomorrow in Church News.

Retired/Missionary Life. Friday.
The below picture of Hanna popped into my memories today, taken in 2012, just a bit before we got engaged. One of my favorite pictures ever. So, it is worthy of a repost!
Today we combined our temple day with medical stuff. (Does that count as multi-tasking??) Hanna visited our awesome eye doctor while I read out in the truck with the boys. (I did go in long enough to help her pick out a new pair of glasses though).
Lunch at the Chalet. We love the place, but don't make it there often enough. (This includes Book of Mormon Rummy.)
Worshipped in the temple. Great day for some peace and spirituality.
Evening, we watched the playoff game. The Hoosiers are for real.
And, we were sent a picture of our youngest grandchild sledding in his new Christmas present. Check out the smile!

Retired/Missionary Life. Saturday.
We were hungry and didn't feel like cooking yet, so we declared it "Old People Go To Breakfast Day" and drove to the Red Tail in Worley and filled up on their breakfast buffet and omelette bar.
While over there, we topped off with cheap gas and walked on the Trail of the CDAs. It had been plowed and was nice bare pavement. The boys were ecstatic!
Back home, I spent a lot of time in the kitchen. Cleaning. Fixing up food prep for the week coming, including a large bowl of my famous secret ingredient Potato Salad.
Also, not to escape the Missionary Gig totally, we texted a bunch of folks we have been trying to get hold of, filled out some weekly progress reports, and prepared a couple of lessons for next week.
Late afternoon, Justin and his boys (his boys are real live humans, not dogs like my boys...) We made up a batch of mint chocolate chip homemade ice cream, finished taking down the rest of the Christmas stuff, bbqed up some burgers and dogs, and ate real well. Team effort all the way around. We talked Scouting (Andy's in the troop in Pullman), Geocaching, Football, Politics (mostly made fun of it...) Family Reunions, and probably several other topics as well.
Bonus for you. A picture of a wild critter up at the Highlands standing in a bunch of beautiful snow. Made me want to try to JEEP up there again!
