6.13.26 The Army. Wagon. PSA. Road Trip. CANADA. Jesus Truck. Flags.
Retired/Missionary Life. Sunday.
HAPPY SABBATH!!! Here! Have a Jesus Picture! He LOVES YOU!
Simple Sabbath day. Sacrament Meeting. Sunday School. Missionary Correlation Meeting.
Back at home, we ate lunch and then took an extended nap.
Once back alive, we read and studied and then watched the classic Sunday-appropriate movie "God's Army". It's worth watching if you haven't seen it in a while.
Retired/Missionary Life. Monday.
Preparation and recreation day.
We planned out our mostly busy week, created delicious menus, put together a meticulous shopping list, drove to Harvest Moon in Rockford for a few rounds of Book of Mormon Rummy and lunch. Then on to Worley where we topped off with cheaper Idaho gas ($4.05), drove to Plummer, hiked on the Trail of the CDAs, then bought the groceries. Back home, we unloaded and put everything away.
I also did up the family books, spent some time on the phone with the doctor's office, and some other similar things.
Evening was spent watching a pre-recorded football game. WSU vs Ole Miss. Great game. Almost won.
We were amazed at the expensive eggs again and had to have an emergency budget meeting right there in the aisle to decide if we could afford them.
And a cool picture of what the younger missionaries did today. How many can you fit into the wagon??
Enjoy!
Retired/Missionary Life.
Busy day. The boys were bored and worrying about what we were getting dressed up for. But cute dogs. Always.
First up was Missionary District Council Meeting. One of our favorites, Elder Peterson, taught a lesson on a couple of the missionary standards. We then took time to brain storm ideas, report successes, and all that good stuff.
Lunch with the other old people from the South Hill at The Chalet was next. Yummy salads and a good game of Book of Mormon Rummy.
Weekly Spanish Lesson at the tutor's house with the Elders was next. They had me take a picture with her because they are worried they may be transferred to Idaho before the next session. You never know what God has in store for them.....but we sure they are staying here to serve with us some more.
Ran some errands. A PSA test blood draw to start with. I do that every six months. I've now been free from the battle with Prostate Cancer for 6.5 years! (That should call for some ice cream, right??) Early detection is key. The blood test pinches just a touch and is cheap and life-saving. If you are 40 or older, get tested annually. It could save your life! PSA for the day.
Dropped a bag of white shirts and a few ties that I somehow used to wipe food with off at the cleaners.
And finally, we worshipped in the temple. Peace and Tranquility.
We were out almost 12 hours today and we were tired and it was late when we got home. But we love being around these awesome, excited, enthusiastic missionaries and worshipping in the temple. No better life! Even better than doing taxes..................
Retired/Missionary Life. Wednesday.
MISSIONARY ROAD TRIP!!! We are in an AirBnB in CANADA! And yes, we are still within the boundaries of our mission. You didn't know the Washington Spokane Mission was an International Mission? Now you know! We are in Grand Forks, BC. Several families of our faith live here and commute to Republic, WA to attend church meetings. And we are in Grand Forks instead of Republic where the missionaries' apartment is that we need to inspect tomorrow, because.....well.........it's a long story. It just ended up that way. Beautiful drive either way, and with a purpose!
Morning was spent packing. (Frivvy begged to drive.....he probably could have if it were a Tesla....)
We stopped on a rail trail just across the Canadian Border and hiked over the Kettle Falls River. Great views.
Our hike was detoured by a couple of baby skunks in the trail. Time to turn around at that point.
Dinner at Subway. And now we're settling in for the night.
We love the variety of missionary work we get to do as Senior Couple Missionaries!
Retired/Missionary Life. Thursday.
We woke up in Canada!! After a scrumptious breakfast of Chorizo Omelette and a few rounds of Book of Mormon Rummy, we headed back to the United States of America.
Meet the lucky Elders who work in Republic and Grand Forks WA! They love working in the toolies and are having great success, with baptisms hopeful for this weekend! After inspecting their apartment, we turned around and went back to Canada. There we walked (again) on the Kettle Falls Trail, found a Geocache, found an Ice Creamery and ate some delicious cancer-killing ice cream (best lunch ever!!!) (I had a scoop of cinnamon roll and a scoop of peaches and cream. Hanna had a scoop of peanut butter finger and a scoop of green apple caramel.) and we saw tons of cool sites!
After traveling East until we were above Idaho, they let us cross back once again into the U.S. of A. and tonight we are in Troy, Montana, ready to visit some more missionary apartments tomorrow.
The work is hastening!
Retired/Missionary Life. Friday.
- Took a picture of the truck next door and its decorations. It is here every time we are. And today, the owner came out and talked to us. He recognized that we are missionaries and we had a good talk about Jesus and missionaries.
- We visited the missionary apartment in Libby. They serve Troy and Libby.
- Caught breakfast while in Libby. Failed to take pictures, but it was delicious!
- Took the boys for a walk in Bonners Ferry before it got too hot and before the storms hit.
- Visited the Missionary Apartment in Bonner's Ferry. I try to take pictures of the most interesting things I see in their apartments, including missionaries themselves. Enjoy!
- We stopped by the CDA temple site on the way back to see what is happening there and take a couple of pictures. The lot has been nicely smoothed out and huge equipment was working on utility stuff. THE WORK IS HASTENING!
- We met up with the Sister Missionaries from our congregation at Elmers in CDA. Awesome food. Awesome conversations. Awesome enthusiasm (which is contagious!)
- It stormed.
- And before crossing back into Washington, we filled up with cheap Idaho gas.
Busy day. We love working with the young missionaries, keeping them safe and fed.
Retired/Missionary Life. Saturday.
Family Day!
Justin and his sons showed up early (for a Saturday) for a day of patriotic celebration! We watched the Fairfield Flag Day Parade, built up a taco bar and ate it, made up some chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream and ate it, built a fire later on, roasted hot dogs and smores over the fire (and ate them), threw around a football a bit, talked about Andrew's campout last weekend with the Scouts, gave Gus a cozy nap, and did some chores around the house.
