5.16.26 Translated. Spider Cache. Rain and Wind. New Toys. Steak. Girls Only.
Retired/Missionary Life. Sunday.
HAPPY SABBATH!! Here! Have a Jesus Picture! He LOVES YOU!!
And HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY too!!!
The usual line up. Sacrament Meeting. Men's Meeting. Missionary Correlation Meeting. At home we rested, read, ate pizza, and watched an episode of Heartland. Plus Hanna spent a bunch of time on the phone to various children and grandchildren that wanted to wish her a Happy Mother's Day.
So, at church, when the Translator dude is the one that is giving the talk, what happens to the translating service? He handed it to Elder Peterson, one of the newest and greenest missionaries in the entire mission, and then proceeded to go on up front and give the talk. It was incredible to watch Elder Peterson read the talk in English while listening to it in Spanish. And his awesome companion from Peru helped him all along the way. TEAMWORK!! We love serving with these guys. They basically give up their lives for two entire years to serve the Lord and teach the Gospel. In addition, these guys we serve with are BOLD, FEARLESS, and have a POWERFUL SPIRIT!
Very anti-climatic, but here, also have a picture of a deer......
Retired/Missionary Life. Monday.
We planned our more chill week. Came up with delicious menus for each meal. Wrote up a grocery shopping list. Drove to Rockford and ate lunch at the Harvest Moon. (Hanna whooped me at several rounds of Book of Mormon Rummy...) Filled up with cheaper Idaho gas in Worley. Took the boys for a walk on the Trail of the CDAs. Bought the groceries. Drove home. Unloaded and unpacked.
We paid $1.25 for a dozen eggs today. This high inflation must stop!!
Also on the way home, we stopped at the Plummer Cemetery to check on a Geocache we hid there. Folks said it was missing. It ain't missing. Can you see it in the picture?
We replaced the boys' favorite play toy because they destroyed the last one. They immediately started fighting over it.
And finally, missionary pictures taken yesterday. One of our entire Missionary Correlation. This was our last meeting with this group. The three Sisters are being transferred to different areas along with Elder Soto. This was an enthusiastic bunch! And one of just the sisters and us. We are sad they are leaving. We love them so much. Off they go to Downtown Spokane, Lewiston, and Peru. The life of a missionary.......always challenging and changing!
Retired/Missionary Life. Wednesday.
Windy, rainy, dreary day. Except to walk the boys in the morning before the rains started, we stayed home and did stuff around the house.
- Dusted the house, top to bottom.
- Did some Housing Steward Communications work.
- Hooked up a new pet camera we got.
- Spent time on a Zoom Call to an insurance dude to find lower rates and better coverage.
- Changed the flag spot lights so they actually turn on when the sun goes down and not before.
- Changed the CPAP filter.
- Put air in the truck tire that is for some reason running low.
- Put the fireplace switch back together...it seems to work just fine.
- Grilled up some pork chops.
- And just before bed, we put on an episode of Heartland.
Everyone, even old missionaries, needs a day like today...
A fire in the fireplace was called for. Frivvy had the right idea, although I never did take a nap. Crazy looking Palouse sunset (that really is NOT fire...). And a baby bambi at the Highlands.
Retired/Missionary Life. Thursday.
Today officially is Old Folks Go Out To Breakfast Day! We took the backroads to the Harvester in Spangle and chowed down on some Palouse Omelettes and played several exciting rounds of Book of Mormon Rummy. (Yes, I many times order a salad instead of hash browns...)
We went for our walk in the Spangle Cemetery.
Back at home, we took time to do stuff around the house again. Like hang the yellowjacket traps. Deal with the mound of cheap steak we bought on Monday. And weed whack a ton of tall grass. We also watched the Kentucky Derby which was run some time ago when we were busy either teaching lessons or visiting missionary apartments. We heard it was a good one. And it is. Golden Tempo spent most of the race in dead last place. But all of a sudden, he decided to race and passed EVERYONE to win! Great to watch. The Message: You are never out of it! Never ever give up!
That was exciting, but the most exciting thing today was the UPS dude showed up (he even knocked loud enough that we heard his delivery...) and brought us our new scooters! We even had time to put one of them together and try it out! We were trying to figure out what to buy to use for backroad entertainment at the Stewart Highlands. ATV? Side by side? Just keep using the JEEP, but with the top off? And we finally settled on off-road electric scooters! So yea, we soon will be skooting along on the Idaho mountain trails! Can't wait!
Spent the evening recuperating by watching a pre-recorded football game. The Idaho Spud Bowl featuring WSU and Utah State. Gotta say. The Aggies didn't seem to be able to do much against the Coug's passing game. That won't bode well for them when the Bengals come to Logan in September...........
Retired/Missionary Life. Friday.
Another day at home recuperating from all the missionary road trips and inspections and getting stuff done around the house.
Taco omelettes for breakfast.
Reading, studying, taking boys for their walk, etc.
Various household chores. Hanna's new phone arrived, so she spent time setting it up. More pictures will be coming now no doubt!
Late afternoon, Frivvy and Gus could tell someone was coming. (Smart dogs!!) And sure enough, here came the Missionaries that serve with us. We fed them a great steak dinner and they fed us a dose of the spirit/a great lesson.
Retired/Missionary Life. Saturday.
I dropped Hanna off at the Missionary Sister's special conference. Her new phone is working fine as you can tell from the pictures she took.
How many Rav4s can you fit in one parking lot??
In her absence, Gus took over the navigational duties and did a fine job. We dropped off dirty white shirts at the cleaners, took a walk on the Centennial Trail, and picked up drugs at the Pharmacy before going home. There we read, cleaned up the kitchen, and got ready to go back to town.
Once Hanna was finished with her conference, we worshipped in the temple and then went out for tacos.
