4.25.26 Dr Pepper Ice Cream. Elk. Lazy Dogs. To Butcher a Pig. Elk.

 Retired/Missionary Life. Sunday.

HAPPY SABBATH!!! Here! Have a Jesus Picture. He LOVES YOU!!
Sacrament Meeting. Sunday School. Missionary correlation meeting. The Missionaries were ecstatic because a family they are teaching came to church!
Once home, our wonder dogs could detect immediately that guests were coming and took their places at the door. It wasn't long before Justin and the grandsons arrived! We had some good talks, especially about their Spring Break Space Trip to Texas. Grilled up some steaks. Made up some Dr Pepper Ice Cream. Built a fire. Ate the homemade ice cream around the fire. And yes, there were marshmallows involved. And a football got thrown around a bit.
Hope your Sabbath was good too!

Retired/Missionary Life. Monday.
Grocery Day. We went early so it wouldn't be too hot for the boys in the truck. Planned out our chaotic week. Prepared nummy menus. Created a shopping list. Drove to Plummer. Bought the food. Drove to Worley. Played Book of Mormon Rummy and ate Salads at the Red Tail. Filled up with cheap Idaho gas. Drove back to Plummer. Walked on the Trail of the CDAs. Drove home. Unloaded. Put everything away.
I was planning on mowing the lawn Wednesday. But the weather don't look too great that day, cold and rainy, so I skipped my planned pre-recorded football game today and went out and mowed instead.
And then I took a nap. (That is the most profound sentence of this entire post...)
We saw some cool Spring sites out on the Palouse today and included those pictures too.
I did my missionary studies in the evening and then concluded the night by joining a mission-wide Zoom call where we got the schedule for the week, listened to several testimonies, and received counsel and encouragement from our leaders.
Finally, pics of a cute family of Elk from our critter cam at the Stewart Highlands. And the missing picture of me walking the dogs on Saturday.
Enjoy!!

Retired/Missionary Life. Tuesday.
Started off the busy day with our weekly Missionary District Council Meeting. We share ideas, thoughts, wins, losses and encourage and teach each other. These are some of the most positive and enthusiastic missionaries I have ever served with! Picture of the "Spanish District" below!
Ate sack lunches for lunch. Sadly, it was too hot for Gus and Frivvy to come long today, they had to stay home.
Next up was me getting my sore back adjusted at the Chiropractors. Tis that season when I lift stuff that I shouldn't, like heavy sand bags out of the truck and that mower that needs to be lifted to couple to the tractor.
We then met the Elders we serve with at our Spanish Tutor's home to learn some Spanish. We tended to focus on Elder Peterson, since he's brand new in the mission and brand new to Spanish. He tolerated us well and hopefully learned a bit along the way. He's very confident and learns fast!
Hanna then had a family meeting to go over some things with her brother and sister while I dropped my dirty white shirts off at the cleaners.
We were exhausted by then and happy just to pick up our groceries and drive home. When I checked in with Safeway though, I found I had made the order at the Safeway clear up on the North side of town instead of the usual one that is right on our way home. 45 minute delay in getting home. But for the win: the north store had Snickerdoodle Ice Cream in stock! That's worth the extra drive no doubt. I'll be more careful to check date, time and place on future orders. Maybe........somethings slip with old age....

Retired/Missionary Life. Wednesday.
We scheduled today as a "work on the yard" day. But about Monday we realized the weather would be horrible and did most of the planned yard work then. And did in-door stuff today.
First, I made yummy taco omelettes for breakfast.
And then I got caught up on my reading and studying. Took a nap. And then got our books and bills caught up. As part of that, I rebuilt the spreadsheet that tracks all of our medical bills and that tells me what needs to be submitted for reimbursement, what has been paid, and what is due. It make more logical sense now.
I watched a pre-recorded football game in the evening (Eagles vs Giants) while eating popcorn and snickerdoodle ice cream.
A day at home is a good thing. And you can see how the boys took it. They worked hard to get their minimum 20 hours of sleep!

Retired/Missionary Life. Thursday.
- Morning was full of studies and reading and walking the dogs.
- Afternoon, we worshipped in the temple. We were excited to see other missionaries there! A fellow Senior couple and younger missionaries who had driven all the way in from Libby, Montana and also from Clarkston! Awesome missionaries.
- Hanna got her monthly neck massaged while I stayed in the truck and read.
-We ate tacos. (This wins the prize today for favorite sentence...)
- In the evening, we had an official Missionary meeting with the President of our Branch/Congregation where we discussed the needs of the members of our Branch and what we can do as missionaries to meet those needs. We love this little Branch!
- We are grateful that the seasons are changing. We got home before dark and witnessed another awesome Palouse sunset!

Retired/Missionary Life. Friday.
Yes. That is frost on our deck. Yes. It was 75 out last Tuesday. Spring in the Intermountain West....
Today was visit missionary apartments day! Missionary Road Trip! We went to Colfax and then to Troy, Idaho. The Troy missionaries had just returned from a service project where they helped a member butcher a pig. That's a new one for me. Only in a place like Troy, Idaho!
While there, we walked with Gus and Frivvy on the Latah Trail. And stopped at A&W in Moscow for some floats.
Great day to drive on the Palouse and Hanna (my photographer) took some pictures!
At home, the main task was to make a batch of my world famous potato salad for tomorrow's BBQ. This is the third time in three weeks that I have made the stuff at the request of family members. Not complaining because I love it myself. But it really is world famous it appears!
Finally, have an elk posing in front of our critter camera up at the Highlands. Enjoy!

Retired/Missionary Life. Saturday.
First up, service project with the other missionaries and our Congregation we serve. We moved pieces of an old fence from a member's back yard. Lots of help made the job fast and efficient!
Late breakfast/brunch at Conley's came up next, along with a few rounds of Book of Mormon Rummy.
We then spent some time doing our studies and reading at a park and then took the boys for a walk on the Centennial Trail.
Spent the rest of the day at Del & Ella's place, along with Justin and Del's folks, burning slash, eating burgers and potato salad, and making Smores. We stayed until the sun set at which time we witnessed a beautiful Elk sunset.
And as is becoming daily tradition, here, have some pictures of some elk! Enjoy!
