2.28.26 Cold. Missionarying. Steak. RFK Jr.
Retired/Missionary Life. Sunday.
HAPPY SABBATH!! Here! Have a Jesus Picture. He loves YOU!
It's always going to be a good day when I wake up to these two waiting for me!
- Sacrament Meeting.
- Men's Meeting.
- Missionary Correlation Meeting. We have three new missionaries with us. One from Peru. One from Kentucky. One from Idaho Falls.
- We went over to the Sister Missionary's place so they could give me some Birthday Cake. (Delicious!!!). And they spent some time entertaining Gus and Frivvy. (Or was it the other way around.....Gus and Frivvy entertained them!)
- Spent the afternoon napping, eating cake, reading, and watching the last part of the Hockey game.
- We had pizza while we watched. And the boys watched the pizza. Closely!
Fun life.
Retired/Missionary Life. Monday.
I've been fighting off a cold for a couple days now. The fight ended today and I succumbed. So, we stayed in and did things around the house, including resting. (Except for going outside to put the garbage out. I had to do that.....)
Gussy and Frivvy spent most of the day sleeping under my desk too.
So what got done?
- Planned our busy week. Made up nutritious and delicious menus. Prepared a grocery list. Typed it into the Safeway app. Pressed "submit" and watched money literally leave my bank account.
- Made inspection assignments to the Stewards. 26 new missionaries arrived in our mission this past week! This uses my organization skills and I enjoy it. 14 Stewards to inspect 62 apartments that 212 missionaries live in!
- Caught up the family books. It still looks like our retirement funds will outlive us. Which is good since I have no plans of going back to work.
- Did some reading.
- Joined in a mission-wide Zoom meeting before calling it a night. (It's difficult to transmit germs via Zoom...).
I was feeling better by the end of the day.
Retired/Missionary Life. Tuesday.
- First up was Missionary District Council. One of the Sister Missionaries we serve with brought a birthday cake and we all dined. They sang to me. And they obviously can't do math.
- Lunch at The Chalet with a ton of other old people.
- I visited the Chiropractor while Hanna got a blood draw and got her glasses refitted.
- Other various errands included picking up the grocery order (Steak was on sale, thus the hundreds of servings of protein), went to the bank, returned an Amazon order at UPS, dropped off dirty white shirts, stopped at the store for Keto and Gluten-Free stuff and some Sudafed, walked on the Centennial Trail.
- BBQ dinner at Dickey's.
- Our lessons we had scheduled all cancelled/rescheduled, so, fitting our motto of "teach or find someone to teach", we went to visit a few members of our Congregation we hadn't seen in a while. We even taught one a short lesson! Teach or find to teach!
- Ended up in CDA for that last lesson, so filled up with cheap gas and drove home in the usual snow storm.
Busy day of missionarying and old people stuff (12-hour day) but we enjoy it. Living the life!
Retired/Missionary Life. Wednesday.
After a 12-hour day yesterday, today we rested, got caught up on reading and household chores, and then hosted Luigi, Brooklyn and August for dinner.
- No, we did not feed them all that steak. That is the steak we got on sale yesterday. I grilled it up and froze it for future use. Felt like I was back at Prime Cut Meat Market there for a bit.
- Gussy and Frivvy MUST help me with my stretches.
- Luigi, Brooklyn and August.
-Great Palouse sunset tonight.
ENJOY!
Retired/Missionary Life. Thursday.
We had some weird and tough stuff to deal with yesterday involving healthcare (I get so sick of advocating for ourselves!!!) and relationships that left me exhausted. And I was pretty depressed when I got up this morning, not really feeling like doing anything. First thing though, was an Email from a friend who is serving as Mission President in Honduras. A report on his service with the younger missionaries. It was awesome. Inspiring. Reminded me of the missionary work I have in front of me and the blessings and miracles I see almost daily as I serve. My spirits were lifted and I was ready to go again. God sent me a blessing. He knows what I need.
We spent the day in town (again):
- Hanna got her monthly massage while I ate a sack lunch in the truck while both dogs watched very closely.
- We worshipped in the temple. Always a peaceful experience. We both felt the holy spirit tell us to "just chill....everything will be OK."
- We ate bacon-wrapped steak bites, salmon, salad, and shrimp bowl for dinner, which included a part of a round of Book of Mormon Rummy.
- Picked up clean white shirts at the cleaners.
- Met with the President of our congregation to go over the work, folks' needs, what needs to be done. He offered a powerful prayer which included mention of issues we are having that he didn't even know about. We came away feeling encouraged and appreciated. Great meeting. Very inspired Branch President.
- And at some point, we got a text from our son, a pilot with Delta who ends up meeting all sorts of celebrities and such, with a picture of him and some politician type dude taken in a BBQ joint in Austin Texas. (We are thankful the 15 Secret Service guys there kept it all safe...)
Retired/Missionary Life. Friday.
We didn't leave the house. And it felt good. Rest is good. We slept in, read, cleaned a bit, took the boys for a chilly, windy walk, and I worked in the kitchen some. For breakfast, I fixed up Taco Omelettes. Dinner was BBQ Bacon-wrapped meatloaf. In the evening, we watched a pre-recorded football game. Indiana vs Penn State. Great last minute win by the miraculous Hoosiers.
Nice sunset tonight too.
Retired/Missionary Life. Saturday.
- We declared it "Old Folks go to Breakfast" Day and drove over to Rockford to dine at Harvest Moon and play some Book of Mormon Rummy.
- We walked the boys at the Rockford Cemetery. Very nice day out!
- Afternoon, we headed to town and worshipped in the temple with our congregation.
