2.14.26 Superbowl. Deer. Collection of Vapes. Atlanta in Space.
Retired/Missionary Life. Sunday.
HAPPY SABBATH!! Here! Have a Jesus Picture! He LOVES YOU!!
- Church: Started earlier than usual with Branch Council Meeting with the leaders in our congregation. Then Sacrament Meeting, Men's Meeting, Missionary Correlation Meeting. Then we hurried over to the other building where our old congregation meets to hear a new friend of ours talk. (She did great and we are so happy for her!!!)
- At home, we rested for a bit, and then Justin and the Grandsons showed up for the Mother of all Superbowl parties! Tons of snacks and a batch of Stewart Stew. Plus homemade Hot Tamale Ice Cream. None of us really cared about either team or the half-time drama, but some of the commercials were really great. I love "emotional" ads and there were quite a few.
Retired/Missionary Life. Monday.
Preparation and Recreation Day.
- Actually, today was Revlimid Day, the day we are grounded to the house until the FedEx Dude shows up with Hanna's poisonous and expensive cancer-killing Chemo drugs requiring a signature. Not a bad thing to be grounded to the house. We get out way too much some days.
- Nasty looking day out at first. Frivvy actually refused to go out just after he got up. I don't blame him.
- While waiting for the FedEx Dude, we planned out our huge week, made up delicious menus, created a detailed grocery list and the boys waited patiently under my desk.
- Once the FedEx guy made it, we made our escape! Salads (and Book of Mormon Rummy) at Red Tail, the purchase of cheap Idaho Gas, walked on the trail of CDA, bought the groceries, and hightailed it back home.
- There, we settled in to watch a pre-recorded football game and dine on leftover Chicken Tortilla Soup. Indiana vs Ohio State Big 10 Championship Game. When is someone going to make a movie about the Hoosiers??
- Lastly, just how many deer can you see in the picture taken at the Stewart Highlands? And enjoy the Palouse Sunset Pictures!
Retired/Missionary Life. Tuesday.
- We started out with District Council Meeting, which included a live broadcast of President Oaks speaking from the BYU Campus. (Picture 1: How many missionaries does it take to broadcast from a phone to the TV?? Funny is that an 85-year-old Senior Missionary was the one to finally get it to work.....)
- Sack lunches were consumed in the truck in the church parking lot while the dogs watched closely.
- Hanna got her new glasses! (I have no idea how she managed not to be in a picture today.....but we'll fix that soon.)
- Taught a lesson about the Priesthood to a brother that is preparing for baptism. He has such a sweet family and we love teaching there!
- Took a walk on the Centennial Trail. SUNSHINE!!!
- Had tacos for dinner and prepared a lesson and did some other studies.
- And then met up with the Sister Missionaries from our congregation to teach a brother a lesson on how to stop smoking. He requested a blessing to help him and the Spirit was incredibly strong as one was pronounced upon him.
- Had a phone meeting with our Mission District Leader to go over our goals.
Left the house at 8:45am. Arrived back about 10:15pm. No retired time wasted today, that is for sure! We love being in the service of our God.
Retired/Missionary Life. Wednesday.
- No appointments and no one coming over. First day like that in a long time.
- We drove to Pullman to drop Gus and Frivvy off at Justin's for safekeeping until we return back from our Atlanta trip this weekend.
- The trip was sunny and scenic and all six of the boys were excited. (Giant multi-day sleepover, right?)
- Since we will be going to dinner on Valentines Day with grandkids, we decided to celebrate Valentines Day today. And since we were in Pullman instead of near Spokane, we broke with tradition and instead of going to Longhorn BBQ, we went to Black Cypress, a great steak house there in Pullman. (We were the only ones, it appeared, to not be professors at WSU...)
- The house is quiet and a bit lonely without two huge dogs in it....
Retired/Missionary Life. Thursday.
Today consisted of three very different adventures:
1. The valiant effort to keep Hanna alive. We spent the morning in the Cancer Clinic. A huge blood draw. Some gets sent to Mayo Clinic in Minnesota so they can test it with their precise cancer testing machine. Results will be back in a few days. She usually does still have some cancer cells floating around in her blood and for this reason, continues on with Chemo and Immunotherapy, for "the duration..." Some of the blood is tested locally to make sure her inards are well enough to encounter some immunotherapy drug. (They always are...Hanna is a healthy woman!) Met with the doctor. "Continue on your plan with no changes...". And then she got jabbed in the belly to receive a monthly dosage of immunotherapy drugs.
2. Worshipped in the temple. Tons of missionaries were there worshipping too, which brought a strong spirit. One fellow walked into the dressing room, saw them all, and shouted out "I'm surrounded by the Army of Helaman!!" Always a great gig to be part of the army.
3. After a dogless walk on the Centennial Trail (we really miss our boys...) and a BBQ dinner, we ventured out to Cheney and watched my Bengals take on the Eastern Eagles. I won't mention how it went this year....but still a fun game to watch.
And I included a couple of pictures of Gussy and Frivvy on their walk with Justin and his boys without us! They look very happy.
Retired/Missionary Life. Friday.
The goal today was to end up in Atlanta by the end of the day. Goal accomplished!!
Here! Have some pictures of Frivvy and Gus too! Their day was likely lots more fun and adventurous!
Retired/Missionary Life. Saturday.
Grandkid Day!!!
Yes, it was also Valentine's Day. But we celebrated it out at dinner last Wednesday. Plus in our marriage, EVERY day is Valentine's Day!
Grandkid events:
- We went to a museum. Great "Space" Display with lots of hands on experiments and stuff. Even Hanna gave running a robot a try. (We were agast to see an adding machine in the "old business equipment" display. I still have mine and can use it!!)
- No southern (we're in Atlanta) visit can be complete without a complete southern cultural experience. So off to Buc-ee's we went!
- Dinner at Golden Corral. Tons of food for everyone! Happy and gooie faces...
- Meanwhile, back in the west, Frivvy and Gussy continued with their own adventure.........without us.
