1.24.26 Zone Conference. Gussy the Garbage Dog. Puppies. Pino. Tacos.
Retired/Missionary Life. Sunday.
Sacrament Meeting. Sunday School. Missionary Correlation Meeting. And that was it! Seemed like a short day.
There was lots of excitement and emotion in the correlation meeting. The younger missionaries are getting busy! Teaching ten people right now, two of which came to church today and both preparing for baptism. It's awesome to see their hard work, faith, and obedience pay off. Blessings!
Back home, we took a nice long, much needed, nap. And then we read, watched church videos, and settled in for a movie after dark.
Sandra Bullock movies are awesome and the only thing better than a Sandra Bullock movie is if the movie also includes football. We watched "Blind Side", a great touching movie.
The Technical Missionaries in our mission posted pictures from our last Zone Conference. Can you find us in them? Enjoy!
Retired/Missionary Life. Monday.
First, Gussy has this habit of digging in the garbage cans and dragging garbage all over the house. To stop this behavior, Hanna bought herself a new garbage can with one of those flip tops. That didn't stop Gussy from trying..... see pictures for the results!
As old people, we must buy food so we don't starve. So we planned out our week, made up menus, created a shopping list, drove to Rockford and had lunch at Harvest Moon, which included a couple rounds of Rummy. Drove to Plummer and hiked on the Trail of the CDAs, bought cheap gas, bought the groceries, and drove home. Unloaded and put away.
Pictures of it all below, including one of Gussy helping me take the garbage out. (I see a theme here....).
In the evening, we watched the Championship Game. Great game. It's clear to me that the two best teams got to play in it, regardless of the playoff drama. I hope they do make a movie....I'll add it to our list.
Retired/Missionary Life. Tuesday.
We did a lot of stuff, but mostly took pictures of our cute puppies. Fighting over a toy first thing this morning. Helping us find a Geocache. Trying to stay warm during their walk on the Centennial Trail. Trying to figure out how to escape and swim in the river (or are they looking for bad guys???) And then one picture of Hanna enjoying an appetizer of bacon-covered steak bites at Boston's.
What we really did:
- Attended Missionary District Council Meeting. We recently were grouped into a new "Spanish" District with all the other missionaries that speak Spanish. This is a really fun group. And the work has hastened mightily. Several folks are preparing for baptism and the Spanish Elders taught 22 lessons last week! We were especially happy because our fellow Senior Missionaries and good friends the Wildings attended also!
- 3 of our 4 appointments for the rest of the day cancelled. That is how missionary work goes sometimes. We did teach one lesson though, on the Life of Jesus Christ. There was a powerful spirit there and we did some good.
- Walked on the Centennial Trail (you already knew that), ate sack lunches, picked up drugs at the pharmacy, read between the meeting and the lesson.
After the excitement was done, we went out to eat and then went home, exhausted, 11-hour day, and zoned out and watched a show.
Enjoy the cute puppies!!!
Retired/Missionary Life. Wednesday.
We didn't go out today (except to walk the boys...). It was sooooo cold out and we had nothing scheduled. So, we just got caught up on some things around the house.
-Fixed Taco Omelettes (again). We're not obsessed with taco omelettes. It's just that we have a ton of taco meat leftover and so I thaw out some every week and use some for omelettes and some for a sandwich...
- Cleaned up the kitchen.
- Read, studied, all that good stuff. I'm almost tested out of DuoLingo. Which means I should know Spanish really well now.
- Worked on a lesson I get to teach on Sunday.
- Rearranged our office. Hanna got a new desk and I get the table all to myself now. Except for the fact that Gussy lays at my feet under it.
- Submitted a ton of medical bills in to Christian Healthcare for reimbursement.
- Did some work on arrangements for the cruise we are going on next January.
- And.......took a shot at making up a batch of Gringo Style Picadillo (aka Pino in Chile) It turned out REALLY good and will now be a regular on our menu planner template. Next time I'll try it Chilean style for sure with a sweet corn crust like a pie and a fried egg on top.
Back to chaos and running around tomorrow, cold or not.
Retired/Missionary Life. Thursday.
Busy day. Ten hours from start to finish. Here's what went down:
- Hanna's Medical Appointment #1. (I waited in the truck with the boys and studied Spanish and read and eventually started eating lunch). Oh the life of a Caretaker.
- Visited Brooklyn and August for just a minute or two because we were close by and they needed a visit.
- Hanna's Medical Appointment #2. This time the boys and me went for a walk around Comstock. Brought back memories from back when we were newlyweds, we used to walk Teddy there.
- Drove clear out to Sullivan to drop a bunch of white shirts off at the cleaners. (They mistook me for the Mission President again. We must look a lot alike...)
- Worshipped in the temple. Saw tons of people we know and got a free dosage of the Spirit.
-Picked up some Keto pancake mix. (Yes!!!! Pancakes for breakfast tomorrow!)
- Had some unauthentic but still delicious Tacos at Taco Time. And MexiFries.
-Met with our Branch President who leads our congregation to go over who we are teaching and who needs our help and what.
Busy day. We'll need some rest now.........
Retired/Missionary Life. Friday.
We stayed in and did things around the house. Taxes. Mostly taxes. Even though we are now retired. One must still file his own. I worked on ours. Hanna worked on her Mom's. Fun times!
And in the evening, we watched a great real-life football movie, 26 Blast. A great one if you are looking for a good movie to watch. #nevergiveup
And since we didn't take any pictures, mostly because we didn't do anything picture-worthy, here! have one of our grandson!
Retired/Missionary Life. Saturday.
WOO HOO!! Old folks go to breakfast day!! We actually have a schedule of where we are going to go and rotate amongst the four cafes near our home. (What, are we accountants or something???) Today was The Harvester in Spangle. And we took the back roads. Very scenic out there. And cold. The Harvester is a very popular place and you just never know who you'll run into there! Today, it was our pizza-makin' friends from Lewiston who stopped in for some grub on their way to worship in the temple!
Afterwards, we took the boys for a chilly walk in the Spangle Cemetery.
The rest of the day was spent reading, studying, and talking about taxes. Just like old times.
Late afternoon, we took a road trip to Elk where Del and Ella had a scrumptious dinner waiting. Always fun getting caught up with them. And we even managed to get all of us in the picture!
