HAPPY SABBATH!!! HERE! HAVE A JESUS PICTURE!!
Church today was awesome! Our Spanish Congregation celebrated the birth of Jesus Christ. Scriptures were read. Hymns were sung. Several folks that we have been teaching participated. It was all really, really good! It doesn't get any better than singing Christmas Hymns in Spanish.
The church called today a "family day" so there were no other meetings or lessons. So, I did the one thing I felt I needed the most and haven't done in a long, long time. I took like a two-hour nap!
After I rose from my coma, I made up a tuna and tomato salad for lunch, then did the studies, reading, and we prepared a lesson we are to give on Tuesday.
In the evening, while dining on leftover Meatloaf, we watched a Christmas Movie. "White Christmas". Hanna's favorite part was the romantic dancing. Mine was the war scene. 🙂
We hope your Christmas Sabbath was joyful too!
And here, in addition to Jesus, have a Christmoose! Nice layer of snow at the Highlands right now. It's tradition to JEEP up there each Christmas. Can't wait!

Retired/Missionary Life. Monday.
It's been a loooong time since we've had a "normal" Monday with no appointments to run into town for. It felt good to be back in our usual routine.
So....we planned out our somewhat busy week (full of guests and dinners...) created delicious menus, made up a detailed grocery shopping list, drove to Worley, played Rummy and ate salads at Red Tail, bought cheap Idaho gas (2.40), drove to Plummer, walked on the Trail of the CDAs (the boys love this hike), rounded up the groceries, drove home, hauled them in, put them away.
Weird thing at the Grocery store though. Most of the milk products, frozen stuff, and meat shelves were empty. What the heck? Pre-Christmas Rush? Vendor truck didn't make it over the pass? Food shortage? But they finally told us they barely got their power back on from the huge wind storm last week. There was lots of spoilage and stuff had not been restocked yet. (The truck was set to come tonight...great timing right?) So, we kept a list of what we needed and when we got home, put in an order to be picked up in town tomorrow. We hope the little store in Plummer has good insurance to cover this sort of thing.
When we weren't dealing with fending off hunger, we prepared four lessons that we needed to get ready for tomorrow's busy day of lessons.
And in the evening, we watched a prerecorded football game. I broke down and watched the Rams vs SeaSquawks game. But just because it had drama, OT, and Puka Nacua.
At the store, we bought the boys a new toy and they immediately began fighting over it once we got home. It's a fun fight though, no worries...

Retired/Missionary Life. Tuesday.
Missionary District Council Meeting. We gave one of the lessons, which we enjoy doing. How the Christmas Shepherds and Joseph Smith (it's his birthday today) modeled good missionary attributes.
Yummy sack lunch sandwiches in the truck in the church parking lot, while the boys watched closely.
We had several appointments lined up today, but they all cancelled or didn't show up. Christmas Season is a tough time for some folks, very busy.
While in town we walked on the Centennial Trail. Did our reading and studying. And picked up the grocery order.
Home in the evening, I worked on the family books, watched a bit of TV (aka zoning out), and called it a night.
Here! Have a picture of Frivvy enjoying the fact that he is back home and not in the truck. Enjoy!

Retired/Missionary Life. Wednesday.
Happy Christmas Eve!!
Since it is Christmas Eve, we did practically nothing today.
We were going to trek up to the Highlands to see what snow looks like and pretend we're having a white Christmas, but it was warm and rainy, critter cam showed very little snow left, and we're guessing there are dozens of trees down from the windstorm. So, we stayed in.
Read. Studied. Took the boys for their walk. And then we watched TV. A video from Christian Healthcare Ministries that was quite good. The Tabernacle Choir Christmas Concert. The Walton's Christmas Movie (2021 version which we had not watched before...usually we watch the 1972 version...) and then Jimmy Stewart in It's a Wonderful Life.
I made up fried chicken for dinner and some special hot cocoa for dessert.
Hanna finished her nativity puzzle and also wanted a picture of our new star.
And, I was embarrassed when I got notified that a shipment of dog food and cat food was being delivered today ON CHRISTMAS EVE! I feel sorry for our poor FedEx Dude. They could have set delivery for next week or something and it would have been fine. FedEx is busy enough right now. (He showed up with the food just after dark...in the rain...)
Finally, a beautiful Christmas Eve Sunset was our gift for the day.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Retired/Missionary Life. Thursday.

Merry Christmas!

We opened presents, hung out, and ate some waffles in the morning.

Afternoon and evening was full of family as Luigi, Brooklyn and August came for a visit and also Justin and his boys. We opened presents, had a fine Taco Dinner, made up some Skittles flavored ice cream, and watched a Christmas movie. Good times.

So, what do the younger missionaries do on Christmas Day with no family around? A huge group of them spent time playing pickle ball today. They had the place all to themselves and from the picture, they look pretty happy.

We hope you all had a great Christmas too!

Retired/Missionary Life. Friday.
Frivvy had the right idea this morning. Cold, dreary, wet day. He sat his body right next to the fire and did not move. Just took a nice long, warm nap.
After breakfast, we tried to venture into town. But quickly found the Highway to our Village was closed due to ice and people sliding off the road. We were actually on our way to the temple. Opposition always, right? As the clock ticked down and we got closer to missing our appointment, we weighed our options. Take the back roads? (This would be exciting, but may actually take longer.) Wait it out? (Who knows how long it will be??) Go back home and give up? (Not in our nature!!!) Option two finally was decided upon. And the road finally did open with just enough time for us to get to the temple right at the starting time. No problem. They catered to our tardiness.
There at the temple, we had a spectacular experience! We ran into an old friend of mine that served with me in Pocatello. Always an uplift to see him and his wife. And also ran into one of the many youth from Colville that I worked with back in the day...he's now serving as a Bishop. Another boost! And a guy we know from Wood Badge! Another upper. And we ran into several of our Mission Stewards there too. (Many of them work in the temple when they are not inspecting Missionary Apartments!) All in all, we made the right decision to wait and go late. I really needed to see these folks and get that spiritual boost. Blessings! And this happens a lot. Opposition in all things good. Good over bad. Bad chasing down good. The life of a missionary.
We tried out the Crimson Door Cafe after the temple for a late lunch. Delicious enough food, but the place was busy.
Picked up some drugs at the pharmacy, walked the dogs on the Centennial Trail (No snow in town...) and headed back home. The snow and ice was gone by then.
The Hermanas we serve with came out for dinner tonight and they brought us a message. Always nice to be the one being taught for once!
And.....caught a good sunset on the way home. Enjoy!

Retired/Missionary Life. Saturday.
Of all the shocks and surprises.....we woke up with absolutely NOTHING on our calendar for today!! So, we declared it "Old Folks Eat Breakfast Out" Day and headed for The Harvester.
Palouse Omelettes! Plus we took the backroads and saw some cool scenes, including a couple of deer running through the stubble. (Look closely)
No snow in Spangle, (there's about an inch of it at the house) so we walked in the Cemetery to protect the dog paws. The boys thought it was great. Hanna and I thought it was a bit chilly. (25 with a bit of wind. But sunny!)
And then we watched the BYU game. Hanna sang Rise and Shout (which I still have not seen released in the new Hymn Book) pretty much through the entire game. Great game! And a great win for both BYU and the Big 12.
We had burgers and sausage dogs for dinner. Look at my burger and tell me I didn't get my start at Burger King! Yup. First job ever. Still love me a Whopper, especially homemade. (That is ketchup and sauerkraut on the sausage dog.) (The Whopper is "hold the onions" because I couldn't find one in the entire house. Huge grocery order fail...)
The BYU bowl game victory gives me a good reason to wear my new official BYU tie to church tomorrow. Can't wait!
