11-8-25 Tamales! Zone Conference. Treats.
Retired/Missionary Life. Sunday.
- Sacrament Meeting
- Sunday School
- Missionary Correlation Meeting
- Quick sack lunch in the truck in the parking lot
- Taught a lesson to a family for their first time. They committed to attend the temple! And it was a great lesson. We kind of speak Spanish and they kind of speak English and the result was a lot of switching back and forth combined with a bit of Spanglish.
- Back home, we read, watched some church videos, and should have taken a nap, but didn't.
- Had leftovers for dinner.
- Cleaned up the kitchen.
- Watched an episode of Heartland.
Retired/Missionary Life. Monday.
Buying and consuming food is an important part of old people retirement. So, today we planned out our busy week, created delicious and nutritious (mostly) menus, prepared a shopping list, drove to Plummer, walked on the Trail of the CDAs, filled up with cheap gas, ate salads (and played Rummy) at The Gateway, bought the groceries, drove back home, unloaded, put away.
We also sorted through pictures of ourselves to pick out a cute one for our missionary plaque. We finally picked the one below. Did we make the right choice?
In the afternoon, I made up a batch of Chicken Morrocan Soup (dismally dark, rainy, cold day calls for soup) and then in the evening we watched the ISU at Cal Davis upset game. And before going to bed, we tuned in to the weekly total mission Family Home Evening Zoom Meeting.
You decide what was preparation and what was recreation.....
Retired/Missionary Life. Tuesday.
We taught a lesson at 1. And had another at 5. Not wanting to drive back home and back to town and back home again, we were kind of stranded in town. So, we decided to take our studies with us. But our study time shriveled up quickly when it became "run errands" time. We drove to Liberty Lake for Hanna to get a blood draw. Then to CDA so she could get her leg brace repaired. (The truck was already on full, so no need to buy cheap gas...). Then to the UPS store in the Valley to mail some packages. Then to the grocery store to pick up some stuff we couldn't get in Plummer. And then it was close to 5. (We'll study extra tomorrow)
After our last appointment, a couple of deer crossed our path. This ain't too far from downtown....
And a lady we taught sent us home with some of her famous Tamales. Yes!!!!!! Very delicious!
Retired/Missionary Life. Wednesday.
First, a picture of where Gussy and Frivvy reside any time we eat. (Yes, they do wait for food droppings, which is rare.)
First thing we see at Zone Conference is the row of official Missionary Cars, all Rav-4s, with their hoods up. Senior missionaries, (like us but not us in this case.....we do housing) magically inspect and maintain each car for cleanliness and safety. Washer fluid is topped off. Oil is checked. Tires are checked. Always a cool site to see.
Meanwhile, the missionaries are inside being instructed on various themes. Today we learned:
- You can change.
- Obedience is important.
- Teaching the Restoration.
- Successful missionary work when it's dark outside.
- Gratitude for blessings.
The conference included a Spaghetti lunch and flu shots. (We are showing off our matching bandaids.)
Back home after dark, I took the boys for their walk. And they both got really muddy. Hanna dutifully cleaned them up before letting them roam the house in muddy feet.
We spent the cold, windy, rainy evening studying under blankets and watching some church talks with the fireplace going and eating Chicken Tortilla Soup for dinner.
Finally, The Highland's camera took some beautiful pictures of a deer surrounded by fall colors. And fog.
Retired/Missionary Life. Thursday.
We first deemed it "Old People Go To Breakfast" Day and went to The Harvester. Palouse omelettes for us both. And then we took the boys for a walk in the Spangle Cemetery.
Shortly after arriving home, the Amazon guy came. See the picture? Do you see any dogs in it? Do you see any dog treats left on the box? Yes to dog. No to treats. But he did leave two treats (probably after taking the picture) and the dogs were ecstatic and happy!
So, as retired CPAs, we thrive on checklists and get an adrenalin rush by checking things off. Today's checked off stuff:
-Changed the CPAP filter.
-Dusted the house top to bottom.
-Topped off the hot tub and changed out the filter.
-Adjusted the timers on the lights on our US flags. (They just keep having to stay on longer....
-Took a bunch of measurements to see if the hose on the Shop Vac is long enough to vacuum up the last of the water in the bottom of the storage tanks. (We plan to change out the water annually to keep it somewhat fresh...)
-Wrote letters to some of our grandkids.
-Made an appointment with my eye doctor.
-Had a phone conversation with the office of my regular doctor regarding an upcoming appointment and getting blood tests before...
-Ordered a new "chew-proof" dog bed. (Guess which one chews things up like crazy still...)
And here is a picture of Frivvy doing what he did for most of the day: napping on the couch. I tried to get him to help (and Gussy tried to get him to wake up and play) but he just ignored all of us.
I grilled up some Ribeye for dinner. And we watched a bit of TV while dining.
Back to running around tomorrow.
Retired/Missionary Life. Friday.
After a bit of studying, we ran to town. First up was a visit to our friendly Chiropractor (Walk In Chiropractic - Spokane Valley, WA) for Hanna's neck massage, my decompression, and my adjustment. Then we worshipped in the temple. (Nice fall picture of the temple). We then picked up some stuff at the store and picked up some drugs for Hanna.
Date dinner was had at Longhorn BBQ. Even with a white shirt......I did not dribble BBQ on myself...)
Wrapped up the night by watching a movie.
Retired/Missionary Life. Saturday.
Here! Have a picture of Frivvy comfortably laying down while eating his breakfast. He is not spoiled!
The Sister Missionaries came over for lunch and to provide service. We had them put up a bunch of Christmas Decorations. We have no plans of lighting them up any time soon, but it is nice to have them up and ready. We love these young missionaries that are so willing to serve.
I took down the harvest picture and put up the Christmas/Snow one. The seasons change in our home...
The boys had to get reaquainted with the Christmas Golden Retriever. They are both scared of it, but posed nicely for a picture when offered treats!
My Patterson book arrived today. Highlight of the day???
In the evening, Del and Ella came out for dinner. And I put Del to work too. We changed out the mower for the blade on the tractor, loaded the truck with sand bags, installed some weather stripping on the slider, and put up more lights. It was a great visit. Molly came too. We got so busy talking that we failed to take any pictures. The pork chops were good though!
