 Missionary/Retired Life. Sunday.

Happy Sabbath! Here! Have a Jesus Picture!!
The life of a missionary has its ups and has its downs. Today was an up. When we went out to do our Missionary Gig last Wednesday, our teaching appointments didn't work out. So, following our theme of "teach....or find someone to teach..." we started dropping in on members of our congregation, especially some we hadn't seen in a long time. We were able to teach one very cool lesson on trials and tribulations. Then at church today, several of the folks we dropped in on and visited with briefly came out to church. Very nice! Makes up for those nights when we come in wondering if we're doing any good at all.
Sacrament Meeting.
Sunday School.
Missionary Correlation Meeting.
We had two lessons lined up to teach after church, but the first rescheduled, so we had an hour to burn before the second. We spent it in the truck in the church parking lot dining on sack lunches and doing some lesson preparation.
Provided a great lesson on Prayer to a sweet little family.
Back at home, we dined on leftover Chicken Moroccan Soup, did our reading and studying, watched the 2nd half of BYU's UConn game, (we had listened to the first half while driving into town last night) and zoned outrested while watching an episode of Heartland.
Hope your Sabbath was joyful and a bit restful too.

Retired/Missionary Life. Monday.
Today is that monthly day when we are grounded to the house so that FedEx can deliver Hanna's poisonous (to cancer), expensive chemo pills that MUST be signed for. But it didn't go as planned.....
First, HERE, have a spooky picture of the Highland's. What IS that creature???
Early morning, we get a message from FedEx that the shipment is delayed. That the drugs are just being unloaded off the plane at the airport, but will still be delivered by 12:10. OK then.
The dogs start growling at something outside. Is it the FedEx dude? Nope. UPS. He delivered delicious smoked cow marrow bones to them. They were sooooo happy and sat on "their" couch and chewed on them for most of the rest of the day.
12:10 came and went. No FedEx Dude. We had the option to put the package on hold and pick it up tomorrow. OK.
While waiting, we had planned out our crazy busy week, developed delicious menus, created a detailed shopping list. So, we were ready to go.
We got to drive by the Worley Liquor store again. Amazing that a car lost control and landed ON TOP of the store. (Hanna took a picture for memories sake.)
Red Tail was our destination, but there was a 25-minute wait. (Wow! On a Monday??). So after filling up with cheap Idaho gas in Worley, we ended up at Gateway. Book of Mormon Rummy and salads. And then a walk with the boys (I had to physically remove the bones from them to get them to come with us on this trip) on the Trail of the CDAs.
Picked up the groceries next. Then drove back home, unpacked and put everything away.
In the evening, we watched a pre-recorded football game, (Yes the BYU vs TCU game...), attended a zoom meeting with the entire mission, and then called it enough and went to bed.

Retired/Missionary Life. Tuesday.
More poisonous cancer drug drama. We finally just called Del, our son-in-law, and a great FedEx Courier, and sicked him on the problem of getting the expensive drugs delivered. He went to the main office, found the package, and hand-delivered it to us during our missionary meeting. Great and appreciated service provided! (Death to cancer!!)
First up today was our weekly Missionary District Council Meeting. We were taught lessons on "The Power of our Missionary Purpose" and "How to Make Missionary Correlation Meeting More Effective". Plus a lot of time going over each other's successes and hardships and brainstorming advice. It's always a spiritual treat to meet with these young, dedicated servants!
And today was their last day together before transfers. Some will be going home, completing their mission, others will move to another area. So, a picture was necessary! We love these folks so much!
We had a lesson after the meeting on the Book of Mormon. Which included a lunch of very delicious tacos and flan. Great family that will be in the temple soon!
Then it was time to walk the ever-patient Gus and Frivvy on the Centennial Trail.
The sunset was beautiful in Spokane Valley.
Another lesson after that on Agency. And then a meeting with our Spanish Tutor.
Back home, we warmed up some leftover Chicken Tortilla Soup for dinner. Now it's time to call it a day. A very busy one.

Retired/Missionary Life. Wednesday.
Morning: Reading, Studying Espanol, Stretches, Preparing Lessons, etc.
Afternoon: Walk the boys, get ready to go.
Later: We taught two out of the three lessons we had set. A lesson on Enduring to the End and another on Worshipping in the Temple.
Back at home, we were all tired. Frivvy deals with that by snuggling with Hanna (He still thinks he's a lap dog. And he IS. Just a HUGE one.) And Gus spent his wind down time chewing his bone while laying on his bed. Neither is spoiled. Seriously.

Retired/Missionary Life. Thursday.
Woo Hoo!! Medical Day. All Day!
But first, my weather app changed last night and now has SNOW in the forecast! Exciting! (Other JEEP drivers fully understand....)
We left home early and drove to the Cancer Clinic in Post Falls. They drew a bunch of blood from Hanna's veins, tested it, deemed her healthy enough for her infusion, and gave her the infusion. We also met with one of the "Providers" to get updated. Our monthly visit is always a fun time. Seriously. Only the cheeriest nurses ever are allowed to work in the Cancer Clinic. Plus, many of them share the same faith as us and are excited to see us and our missionary nametags. Today they were especially excited about the announced location of the new CDA temple.
Pictures include an actual inside view of a Cancer Clinic Exam Room (I bet you've always wondered what one looks like...) and Hanna being entertained with happiness before they infuse her.
We next drove to the announced location of the new temple and took a picture. Not much there now except sage brush.
We went to Elmer's for lunch. We continue to amuse ourselves by playing Rummy with Book of Mormon playing cards. They have cool pictures on them!
And we walked on the Centennial Trail on Lake CDA. It was sunny out and the boys loved the walk.
You thought I was kidding about it being a Med day.....next we went in for our annual dermatology exam. Hanna, as usual, passed with flying colors. No concerns. But me, on the other hand, had to have some precancerous crap frozen off my head. Hanna was amused and took some pictures of my head steaming. (PSA: wear a hat in the sun!)
In the evening we did our studies and got done in time to watch an episode of Heartland.

Retired/Missionary Life. Friday.
Nothing better than running to town twice in one day.
Started the day off by doing a virtual missionary inspection of an out-of-town apartment. Followed by our first trip to town for my annual physical exam blood draw. (Fun, right?) To celebrate that I didn't pass out or die, we went to Chalet for breakfast. (We barely met the appropriate age to go there. It appears you must be 60 or older to enter...). We stopped at the Conservation Area on the way home for our walk, which the boys enjoyed.
At home, we changed, did our studies, changed again, and then headed back to town. Worshipped in the temple and then met up with Luigi, Brooklyn and August for Tacos. Delicious food and great company.
At the temple, we remembered last Saturday when we came here. The lady we were going thru the temple with, one we had been teaching for a couple of months in preparation, was very touched by the experience. She told Hanna that they knew each other in the pre-existence and God kept her alive so she could teach her. And God would heal her from her cancer. Incredible experience. Another great day to be a missionary.
And today, also, great day to be grandparents!

Retired/Missionary Life. Saturday.
AKA Football Day!
Looking outside first thing this morning, it looked like a great day for a road trip. So off we went to Moscow to see my National Champion ISU Bengals (they were...in 1981...) take on the Idaho Vandals. In the Kibbie Dome. (Great place to watch a game). We were only two of about 15 folks that wore orange, but no matter, we represented well!
Hanna also wore Bengal Orange, even though ISU is not her team. It's a true sign of love if your girl wears your school's colors! (There's even a country song about that...)
The Bengals did win. (I took a pic of the scoreboard at half time, just in case though...)
Hanna loved the 300-person Vandal Marching Band.
ISU was awarded a giant potato for the win. (Look close, you can see it like it's a trophy.)
Great Palouse sunset outside the Kibbie Dome after the game.
And then we went to Jack Jack's for dinner to celebrate and do a kind of date night/date day.
Grabbed a cache hidden by our grandson on the way home.
And yes, we did do some missionary work. A fellow customer at Jack Jack's asked about our "Biblical Playing Cards". He probably wants a set now.......
