10.4 good buddy 25 Road Trip (still)

 Retired/Missionary Life. Sunday.

Happy Sabbath!! Here! Have a Jesus Picture! And I'm sure President Nelson isn't the only one in the Savior's arms today.
We attended church in Miles City. Friendliest Congregation ever! We were greeted by a bunch of folks, wanting to know who we were, where we were from, and a hopeful Bishop that hoped we had just been assigned to serve in his ward.
And then we drove to Medina, North Dakota, which is somewhere between Bismark and Fargo. Nice AirBnB that is very comfortable. We enjoyed the drive, picked up some Geocaches, and Hanna took a ton of pictures, including one of a large metal Bird that had a Geocache close to its base.
Three days down, one to go. We plan to arrive at Rochester tomorrow night.

Retired/Missionary Life. Monday.
Longest travel day of the entire trip. But we made it to Rochester safely and are ready for Hanna's appointments tomorrow.
Pictures along the way....
At the MT Airbnb, Gus continually tried to figure out how to jump up on the table so he could reach and eat the chandelier.
Dude across the street showed off his tractor to us.
We did the usual stop for a Geocache. The boys enjoyed being out of the truck.
The GPS routed us around through St Paul. Great job avoiding rush hour traffic. Hanna took pictures, including one of the Mississippi River.
We stopped for a walk in the park and Hanna found a Love Garden.
And, a picture of the boys exploring the new AirBnB in Minnesota.
Enjoy!

Retired/Missionary Life. Tuesday.
Day of the Check Up. We were a bit nervous because some of the initial tests that Hanna took weeks ago, we had received the results before we left home and one of them came up abnormal. We contacted Mayo to see if this would require more tests while we are here and they said "no, we'll talk when you get here...." So, we figured it could go one of two ways. Relapse and they want to tell us in person. Or it is nothing significant. And the winner was.........nothing significant. (We can breathe again now.) Our Doctor pronounced Hanna in "continual remission" and said no change to her treatment is needed at this time. Blessings. Living with cancer can be nerve-wracking at times. Like this past week. Getting old can be stressful and full of medical issues. And blessings too as we overcome the challenges or adapt to them.
The first appointment was a blood draw at 7 freaking am. (We watched the sunrise from the 4th floor of the Parking Garage) We then went to "Grandma's Diner" (one of our favorite) for breakfast. Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs for me. Omelette for Hanna. And yes, that is a Diet Dew I am drinking.
Back to the house, I took a much needed nap. And then we went back to the Clinic to meet with the Doctor. He gave us the good news, checked out Hanna in person, and quizzed us on our route and overnights for this trip. (That seems to intrigue him.)
We celebrated the good news by consuming cancer-killing ice cream at Flapdoodles.
The dogs made themselves at home in the AirBnb, taking over the couch.
The rest of the day, I took the boys for a walk around Silver Lake, read, studied Spanish, took another nap. We went to Canadian Honker for dinner. Steak and Walleye for me. Salmon for Hanna.
Ended the day by chilling more and watching the pre-recorded football game BYU vs Colorado.
We pack up and head West tomorrow. We will take our time going home, taking the Hiway 2 scenic trip with a few side trips for Geocache hunts.

Retired/Missionary Life. Wednesday.
Today we drove from Rochester to Fargo. We stopped several times for gas, potty breaks, lunch, and to grab a few Geocaches.
Tonight's AirBnB is literally blocks from the campus of North Dakota State University. GO BISON!!
The boys broke in another AirBnB. They are starting to wonder if we are going to live like this (in a different home every night) forever. Seriously, they do travel well.
And yes, I had a Code Red Zero for breakfast. Delicious! I missed the stuff!

Retired/MIssionary Life. Thursday.
We made it as far as Devil's Lake. The boys are getting used to sleeping in a different home each night. We found some cool caches, saw some cool harvesting sites, saw the infamous Fargo Dome (Go Bison!!), and ran across a High School whose mascot is a polar bear. Probably indicative of what winter is like up here. Plus, Frivvy got into some burrs and had to be brushed. Also, here, have a picture of an Elk from the Highland's. Enjoy!

Retired/Missionary Life. Friday.
Worship in a temple weekly. Our goal. And so today, we turned and drove South for 90 minutes (3 hours total out of our way and extending our trip by an entire day) so we could worship in the Bismarck Temple. We needed it. After fighting traffic for a week, worrying about medical test results, and etc. the peace we felt as we entered that sacred building was overwhelming. They were excited when they saw our missionary badges and were thrilled that we took time to see their temple. The President and Matron spent a lot of time chatting with us before we left. Great experience.
Other things that happened today:
- We decided to drive through McClusky to grab a fun cache there. about 30 miles out, the highway turned to gravel...and stayed that way for 20 miles. (Gotta love the Dakotas...) No matter. I drive a JEEP. But when we went to unload tonight, EVERYTHING in the back of our truck had a ton of Dakota Dust on it.
- One of the caches required a bit of four-wheeling. Again....I drive a JEEP. Great find in the woods.
- We visited the "Geographical Center of North America and found a cache there hidden inside an old combine.
- And just after arriving at our AirBnB in Bismarck, three cop cars pulled up in a hurry and surrounded the house. (We're always up for an adventure!) Concerning at first as one of them quizzed me as to who I was and why I was there. Turns out, the home owner had some guys working on replacing some of the siding and a couple of them had outstanding warrants. When the coppers pulled up, they ran. And it appears they got away too, leaving their truck here out front. It'll be interesting to see if they come back for it tonight. The home owner apologized profusely and told us she spent the evening at the police station. One of the cops told us she drove off with one of the bad guys, but unsure if she was trying to help him get away or was just giving him a ride home. Did she get arrested??? Fun times!

Retired/Missionary Life. Saturday.
The bad dudes did not come back for their truck. Smart move on their part. We headed north to resume our travel home via Hiway 2. But, when we got to Hiway 2, we just kept going. And ended up in Canada. We grabbed a cache in Manitoba. Then drove West a bit and grabbed another in Saskatchewan. Check and check. We then drove back to the USA and holed up in an AirBnb in Minot.
See the pic below of the boys having a synchronized peeing contest. (Frivvy won.) Also, a deer at the Highland's.
We did listen to most of General Conference while driving. So don't think we were slacking.
Also, ironically enough, we are in a duplex and the guy next door is a cop, complete with his State Patrol car parked out front. Also, they were leaving while we were arriving. They saw our missionary name badges and got excited. They are members of our faith, and they told us our host is too. Small world when it comes to religion.
Tomorrow we will continue West.
