9.6.25 Draft Queen. Las Hermanas.

 Retired/Missionary Life. Sunday.

Happy Sabbath!!! Here! Have a Jesus Picture!
Pictures were taken at church for several reasons. First, someone thought it was cool that most of us missionaries were wearing blue. Second, Hermana Racker is being transferred to the other Spanish Branch. And third, because as pictures started to be taken, folks started saying "hey! I wanna picture!!" So, yea, here we are, missionaries and the people of the Spanish Branch!
Sacrament Meeting. Combined meeting on Ministering. Pictures. Our lesson after church cancelled. So, we ate sack lunches in the truck in the parking lot and then drove home.
Read. Studied Spanish. Took a nap. Watched some church videos. And.....it was Fantasy Football Draft Night! My brothers, nephews and grandsons with some of our wives are all in a Fantasy Football League. "A family that trash talks together stays together..." Right?
Hanna is the defending Super Bowl Champ. From the pictures, you can see how much she focuses on this stuff. The boys could care less and took a huge nap during the process. And...Hanna found a lucky Coug hat to wear during the draft. No doubt she will now win the championship again!
BONUS: a bunch of pics from yesterday's back roads that didn't make last night's post. Enjoy!

Retired/Missionary Life. Monday.
Preparation and Recreation Day.
Our plans to go out to lunch and grocery shopping got shot down real quick once we realized that the grocery store was closed for the holiday. So, we stayed home, in the home (way too hot outside) and did stuff here. Studied, read, wrote, prepared a couple of lessons. Did up the books and paid the bills. Plus, closed grocery store or not, we planned our week, created yummy menus, prepared a meticulous shopping list, and, well, printed it out. We'll go to the store tomorrow.
And then I pulled out the project list. Topped off the hot tub. Changed CPAP filter. Fixed the outdoor light. Updated the timers on the lights. Probably some other stuff too that I don't remember or won't confess doing.
In the evening, we watched a prerecorded football game. Last year's game between BYU and SMU. It wasn't televised, so didn't watch it or tape it last fall. But found it on Youtube today and couldn't resist.
Us boys did go for a walk before it got too hot out this morning. See the picture below. Frivvy acts like he is totally exhausted and is about to pass out. Gussy acts like he is ready to go again.
Enjoy!

Retired/Missionary Life. Tuesday.
School has started......
Since we couldn't buy groceries yesterday, we did so today. Salads and Rummy at Gateway in Plummer, bought cheap gas, bought the groceries. They had Bison Burger for sale! I shoulda tried some.
We bought the boys a new squeaky rope toy since the last one we bought has been destroyed. Frivvy took immediate and complete control of it. But it didn't take long for Gus to come and contest that....
In the evening, we ran into town and taught a lesson on The Savior and another on Temple Covenants. More folks will be in the temple soon...

Retired/Missionary Life. Wednesday.
Morning: Get walks in before it gets blazing hot. Read, study, shower, breakfast, all that jazz.
Afternoon: Two different medical appointments. One, a checkup on Hanna's Thyroid. Second, a Mammogram (she loves those things...)
Dinner at Denny's.
And then we put our missionary hats back on and taught two lessons. One on the Book of Mormon. And one on Symbolism of the Temple. More folks will be going to the temple soon!
Quote of the day from an 82-year-old dude that was still working as a Medical Office Manager: "If you don't lay down, they can't bury you!" He was quite proud that he was still working full time in the same job he has had for 42 years. I didn't say a word, but I'm quite proud that I was able to retire at 62.
From the thermometer in the truck, you can easily see that we drove to Arizona today. It was 100 out! Wait. That was in the Spokane Valley...
We got home past dark, but the moon was out.

Retired/Missionary Life. Thursday.
Oh....this is getting routine.
Morning: got in the walk before it got hot, read, studied Spanish, got ready to go.
Afternoon: Worshipped in the temple. Always a good experience. We have a goal of worshipping there every week. So far, so good this year (and last year too). Wanna know what goes on in the temple? Let me know.......I have a lesson for that!
Evening: We went out to dinner with the Sister Missionaries that serve in our Spanish Congregation with us. And then came home and chilled and even watched an episode of Heartland.
Here, also have a Palouse Sunset!

Retired/Missionary Life. Friday.
Today was a "hang around the house and get things done day" and also an Assistant Housing Coordinator Day. In that regards, I put the finishing touches on a Steward Training write up we've been working on.
Pictures tell the story:
- Gus and Frivv gawking at the neighbor's old car that he was working on.
- What does Gussy see inside the window?
- The three Sister Missionaries we serve with helping us do some housework we never seem to get to. Missionaries love service! Do you need some service? Let me know...
- Lots of stuff got done! Floors cleaned and mopped, even under the furniture. House dusted top to bottom. Windows washed. Dogs brushed. Pictures changed out. Lots of stuff!
- And after they left, the boys were so tired from the excitement that they fell asleep while wrestling over a rope.
The End. Enjoy!

Retired/Missionary Life. Saturday.
We had planned an overnight trip to the Highlands for this weekend, but then cancelled that plan as other stuff came up. Good thing. The place was busy with critters, including the bear that came back through for the third time. We thought it was just passing through, but here it is again. Must live close by.
We got up before we wanted to and went to a cemetery with our Spanish Congregation and missionaries to provide service in memory and tribute to 9/11.
We then went for brunch at Jenny's and then hung out in the truck and read and napped.
Afterwards, we joined a bunch of the congregation again for a Taco Party. Yummmmyyyyyy!!!
Finally, we went to the wedding reception of one of my young scouts, now obviously fully grown and making great decisions.
His mom told me how my work as his Scoutmaster accounted for his decision to serve a mission. I was really touched. Ten years of service in that position with four different troops. Lots of fun, but also hard, tiring, frustrating work at times. It was awesome to see a payout blessing like this day.
