9.13.25 Help Who You Can.
Retired/Missionary Life. Sunday.
Sacrament Meeting. (I gave the prayer. Didn't mess the Spanish up too bad actually...), Sunday School, Missionary Correlation. And then we were supposed to have two lessons but both rescheduled.
Back home, we ate lunch, took naps, read, studied Spanish, and watched a Christian Movie.
And that was it.
The boys had a chill day too and I actually took a picture of it. Enjoy!
Retired/Missionary Life. Monday.
Today was set aside for doing Mission Housing stuff. And we spent most of the day on that. 201 missionaries in our mission (was 189 last transfer), living in 62 apartments, to be inspected by 13 Stewards, organized and assigned by us. Organizing stuff is kind of like the work I did for a career and I enjoyed it.
Other things needed to be done too. Like doing up the books and paying the bills. And plus we gotta eat, so we planned our super busy week, created yummy and healthy menus, prepared a meticulous shopping list, typed it into the grocery website, pressed submit, and watched money literally disappear from our bank account.
Hanna got a lot done too. In fact, she cleared off her list of "to dos" from her white board and was both shocked and proud of herself.
Frivvy and Gus were happy that we stayed home all day. And it wasn't too hot for Frivvy to go out on the deck and sun himself.
Evening was the traditional watching of a prerecorded football game. Best game to watch this week: Eagles/Cowboys. Several fights. A spitting competition complete with ejection, and the Eagles win even though they didn't look much like defending champs....
Bonus picture.....cute photo of us from Saturday cleaning the cemetery. Enjoy!
Retired/Missionary Life. Wednesday.
What a tragic, sad day. At times like this, I start to wonder if the world is really just totally lost forever. And I start feeling helpless like there is nothing I can do. I think the last time I felt like this was the afternoon of the Freeman School shooting. This was close to me because I had family there at the School Complex. I was a Scoutmaster at the time and considered canceling our Scout Meeting that night. But after some pondering and prayer, I decided to not cancel. The result was a long discussion amongst those boys about the school shooting, the suicides at their own school (North Central) that no one ever talks about, gang violence in their own neighborhoods, and on and on. It was a healthy and helpful discussion that provided them strength and courage and determination to do what is right. And I came away convinced that my job was to help and save the few that I can. Many of those boys are doing great things now, including the one whose wedding reception I attended this past weekend. He served his own mission and was married in the temple.
So it was today. At the shock and sadness of the events, we decided to still be missionaries and help people. We taught a lady who hadn't been to church in quite a while. She admitted she needed to be there and committed to attend this Sunday. We taught a man who has lost the lease on his home and is having difficulty finding a new place to live. He was soooooo stressed out. We taught him that faith in Jesus and prayer could help him. He stopped us in the middle of our lesson and prayed out loud for that help. We taught the final temple preparation lesson to an 83-year-old woman who wants to worship in the temple. Her grown daughter was so happy with her progress and the fact that she will go to the temple in the next few weeks, that she was in tears. We can't save everyone. But we can save who we can.
Also, the dogs wrestled and growled at each other. And we had Mexican food for dinner.
Retired/Missionary Life. Thursday.
Lots of little things got done. Like fixing the play list on my PC. Fixing the deer whistles on both vehicles. Getting caught up on reading and napping and Spanish. Organizing the kitchen and even cleaning it a bit. Rerunning an amortization table I use. Fun day, right?
In the evening, we put on an episode of Heartland. (They broke up again!!).
And here! Have an elk grazing up at the Highland's....
Retired/Missionary Life. Friday.
The day started out early. I got my heart and stroke tests. And then Hanna got her heart and stroke tests. It didn't take as long as we thought, so we sat in the truck in the church parking lot and read and studied a bit. Then we grabbed salads (and played some Rummy) at Darcy's. Temple worship was next. Then we went to Walk In Chiropractic - for Hanna's massage and my back decompression and adjustment. And then we went to Luigi and Brooklyn's place for a really nice dinner they fixed up for us.
Enjoy the proof. Errrr.... I mean the pictures. Especially the one with me and my Buddy, August.
Retired/Missionary Life. Saturday.
Before the day even got started much, the Beasts knocked the couch over! They were wrestling on it. One dove off and ran around it. The other tried to just jump off the back of it. And it tilted and crashed over. In the picture Frivvy is going "wait! My couch is weird! How am I supposed to nap on it now??" And Gus is doing the usual "who me????"
Today is officially "Old People Go To Breakfast" Day. We went to Gateway in Plummer. Played some Rummy. Had delicious meat scrambles. It was cool enough out to bring the Boys along and we walked on the Trail of the CDAs. This made them extremely happy.
Some minor stuff got done around the house, plus some reading and studying, and then we drove out to Elk to dine on Pizza with Del and Ella. And their pup, Molly, who was the center of attention.
Final pictures are of the parade of wild animals that paraded through the Highlands in the last 24 hours. Nice Buck. Coyote. And.....wait! Is that really a WILD animal??? We're guessing the folks who own the 20 acres next door must have been up there with their dog. Either that or this guy is a looooong way from home.
