8-9-25 Cracked Windshield and Cracker Jack
Retired/Missionary Life. Sunday.
On our way to church this morning, a truck towing a boat passed by and something flew off and hit our windshield! There's a huge break and cracks. Fortunately, it didn't go THROUGH the windshield. If it had, it would've hit Hanna in the chest and could have been catastrophic. Protecting angels for sure. (Again...) We are supposed to be on this mission. We both have been protected in many different ways so we can serve. Right here. Right now.
Church included Sacrament Meeting, Sunday School, and Missionary Correlation meeting. We then taught a lesson on the Plan of Salvation to a single mom and her two daughters. (If you are interested in learning about the Plan of Salvation, just let me know... we have connections and will get you taught...)
Back home, we read. We studied. We practiced Spanish. We watched church videos. We did some planning. We ate leftovers. And I worked on lodging for our upcoming trip to Mayo Clinic.
And then we watched an episode of The Chosen.
Pictures below show the damaged windshield plus there's a bunch that the critter cam took up at the Highland's yesterday.
Hope your Sabbath was swell!
Retired/Missionary Life. Monday.
Old people must have food. So...we planned out our muy ocupado week, created yummy menus, prepared a meticulous shopping list, drove to Plummer (stopping at the auto body shop to get a quote on our catastrophically damaged windshield...), topped off with cheap Idaho gas, ate salads at The Gateway (and played Rummy), bought the groceries (includes unlimited free bags), drove home, unloaded, unpacked.
I found a hug bag of Cracker Jacks INCLUDING a "Prize Inside". Nostalgia! And Hanna doesn't know what it is she found. A cross between a watermelon and a pumpkin??? And the boys' toy was shredded and destroyed (again) so we bought them a new one. They immediately started fighting over it.
Recreation? We rewatched the Holy War. Totally worth seeing again. And again. And again...
Retired/Missionary Life. Tuesday.
But first, yes, the boys woke up and started wrestling over their new toy again. But when they saw us putting our missionary duds on, they automatically went and got themselves into their kennels. Good boys!
Drove to town. Attended Missionary District Council Meeting. (We are preparing for next week's General Authorities' tour of the mission). Drove back home. Ate delicious Hanna salads for lunch. Prepared a lesson on the Sacrament both in English and Spanish. I = tired, so I took a quick nap. Studied Spanish. Read a bit. Then back to town to teach three lessons. One included a dinner of delicious authentic Mexican food by hands actually born in Mexico. She really wants to go to the temple. And then a lesson to a mostly blind man who is trying to progress towards Christ. And then we ended the night at our Spanish Tutor's home for a lesson. And drove back home...in the dark.
Tired. But doing a lot of good. That is all.
Retired/Missionary Life. Wednesday.
We had the morning to stay at home and we made a great effort to get a ton of stuff done. As live-at-home missionaries, we do not have a landlord to call to fix stuff or to take care of the yard. So, our "off" days can be quite busy. We took the truck to the Auto Body Shop to get a new windshield. Then the plumbing company showed up to extend our propane piping and hook it into our propane generator. Stricken from my project list were: change filter on CPAP; drain, clean, and refill hot tub; pour salt into water softener; adjust timers on outdoor flag lights to account for shorter days; and there was probably more stuff too.
Early afternoon, we put on our missionary outfits and ran to town and had dinner and a lesson, along with the Sister Missionaries, at one of the homes of a lady we have been teaching. She will be in the temple soon. And then another lesson at a man's home, in his back yard. And then yet another one at another member's home. (She fed us Ice Cream!! Yum!!)
We taught seven lessons this week. And now we're tired. Lots more stuff to do this week, but that is the end of our lesson schedule.
Tired, but blessed and joyful!
Retired/Missionary Life. Thursday.
The boys were rambunctious as usual when they got up. But Gussy stopped the wrestling to pose.
The highlight perhaps of Hanna's day was finding some old contraption hanging on the wall at a home she visited. Anyone know what this thing is???
Picture of the streets of Spokane Valley close to where we lived for a while and now where we serve. Nice and green.
We worshipped in the temple. And then went out to dinner with some of the other Senior Missionaries we serve with. Always a good time hanging out with other missionaries and comparing battle stories.
A cool car parked next to my truck. Not sure which one was cooler...
And finally, the boys melowed out near bed time and were chilling.
Rejuvenated.
Retired/Missionary Life. Friday.
Today was dedicated to fulfilling our duties as Mission Assistant Housing Coordinators. As such, we spent some time today acting like we weren't retired and sitting at a computer revising and updating the Steward training materials. But we're efficient at that sort of stuff so had time for a lot of other things too.
We deemed it "Old Folks Go To Breakfast" day and drove to Gateway in Plummer. (We saw cool combines on the way there!) I had Meatlovers Scamble with Onion Rings. (Don't judge me...). It was cool enough out that we could bring the boys and we walked on the Trail of the CDAs. (They were very excited...). Filled up with cheaper Idaho gas, and then back home.
Huge event. During the drive, the truck spun over to 36,000. We mysteriously hit that number long before we got to the three-year mark. No more Manufacturer's Warranty, not that anyone needs one if you have an Emergency Fund...
Chores today included paying bills, studying Spanish, planning more on our Mayo Clinic Trip, and then we watched a movie after dinner. "Raising the Bar". Great, true, motivational movie. You should stream it. (The boys begged for popcorn and did not watch the movie....)
Retired/Missionary Life. Saturday.
We try to reserve Saturdays for family. And so it was today. Justin and the boys showed up late afternoon. In addition to catching up on stuff, we dined on Tacos and Homemade Huckleberry Ice Cream. I failed to take any pictures while they were here, so, below I include a picture of proof that they were here.
Also a picture of creatures from the Stewart Highlands. And pictures of tonight's Palouse Sunset.
