5-17-25 - Just like we have jobs now...

 Retired Life. Sunday.

Happy Sabbath! Here, have a Jesus Picture!
Typical Sunday. Sacrament Meeting. Men's Meeting. Met with the Sister Missionaries. Later on we went to the Assisted Living Place and met up with a bunch of family and visited Hanna's Mom for Mother's Day.
The rest of the day was spent resting, reading, watching church videos, and we managed to fit in an Episode of Heartland.
In our lesson on the Sabbath Day that we teach our people we are working with, we teach that there are three reasons the Lord gave us a commandment to keep the Sabbath Day Holy. And frankly, I'm thankful for all three reasons. 1. Because we need to rest. If there was no day of rest, some of us would work without any break at all. (Guilty). 2. Because we need spiritual rest and nourishment. 3. To show the Lord that we can be obedient to a commandment.
Pictures below:
- Jesus protecting you from the devilish wolves.
- A deer at the Highlands. No doubt it is searching for the Elk from yesterday. I bet they're friends.
- Mom and family.
- The new truck has its first flat tire. Needs new tires anyways.
- I practiced my Spanish. Asked Google Translate verbally how to say fifty. This is what I got...
- Gus got bored.

Retired Life. Monday.
As tradition has it, we try to reserve Mondays as a Preparation Day where we do things like mow the lawn, work in the garden, and also do some recreation, like watch a prerecorded football game. But, we have this sister that has requested lessons on Monday, so we ran to town for that in the afternoon. (She's real sweet and we love her a lot and its worth the trip.) So that took up part of the day.
In the morning, we did our studies and I spent an unusual amount of time changing the tire on the truck and shopping for and making arrangements for new tires. We also planned our week, created menus, made up a shopping list, typed it into the web site, and pressed "order". Then it was time to go to town.
While in town, we decided to run some quick errands. Took a pile of white shirts to the cleaners. Filled up the JEEP with gas. Picked up drugs at the Pharmacy. Picked up the Groceries.
By the time we got back, there was no time for mowing and no time for football. Sad. But it was a great lesson! And the truck has new tires. And they look cool, unlike the originals.
Hanna fixed her yummy fried chicken for dinner. We saw a unique looking Palouse sunset. And I made the boys pose for a picture just because we all like pictures of them. Enjoy.

Retired Life. Tuesday.
Today we put on our "Assistant Mission Housing Coordinator" hats. We committed to helping with housing one day a week and today was the day. It wasn't too hot out, so we took Frivvy and Gus with us. (Yes, we are spoiled missionaries........missionarying with our puppies.) We met with Stewards (folks that inspect the missionary apartments) in Post Falls, Hayden, and Sandpoint. Two of the three were fairly new and hadn't done an inspection yet (surprise!!), so it was a good day to get them going and answer their questions.
Great day for a road trip and to break in the new tires!
Once home, we spent the evening doing our studies.
And the Highlands camera captured a picture of yet another creature.
(In picture 1 below, you can see what the boys thought of the long trip to Sandpoint...)

Retired Life. Wednesday.
I got the studying done around noon. (This included translating a lesson we have given a dozen times in English to Spanish). Also, I spent morning time trying to get a Language App to work. The Church has its own (Embark) which isn't too bad. And it has an AI run feature that allows you to have a conversation, which I need to practice. But I was locked out...it required a password. After several calls to different leaders and offices, I still didn't have a password. Last ditch effort was Emailing developer support to report a bug in the app, but instead, I begged for a password. Nothing. So I gave up and bought Langua, which is an awesome app for this conversing stuff. Less than an hour later, the Embark developer emailed me a password. Ugh. But, Langua is more functional and easier to use. So it turned out good anyways.
At noon, with not having to leave for lessons until 3 or so, the question was "what do I do? Football or Lawn Mowing?" Regardless of how horrible the lawn looks, football won. USC vs Texas A&M Bowl Game. Close, exciting game, but the wrong team won.
In the evening, we taught two lessons to folks preparing to go to the temple. And then at 9pm, we remembered we were supposed to go caching today. Because Hanna has never found a cache on May 14th. So, out into the darkness we went to find one. Made the grab on one about a mile east of Rockford. In the dark. And the wind. But we got it.
Pictures:
1- Hanna's cache.
2 - I got up in the middle of the night. The boys followed me out and took over the love seat. They think it is theirs.
3 - Elk's turn to get photographed.
4 - Omellettes for breakfast. (Thanks to JB's Big Boy for the training way back when...)
5 & 6 - Afternoon naps for the boys.
7 - No doubt we would never pass one of those missionary apartment inspections...

Retired Life. Thursday.
Here! have a picture of us, Elder & Hermana Stewart-Longhurst!
And does that critter up at the Highlands only have three legs???
We spent the morning doing our missionary studies, especially preparing a lesson for an appointment tonight. Plus conversing with my new friend, Santiago, who is an AI dude on my Langua app. We talked about JEEPS and where you could drive one and what you would do once you got there. (To high mountain lakes and build a fire and cook hot dogs.)
In the afternoon, I mowed the lawn and sprayed out some grass that is growing where it doesn't belong (sounds like my old man facial hair somehow...), and started trimming grass and weeds, but my weed whacker ran out of string. So it got put off and unfinished.
In the evening, we drove into town with great plans. But our first appointment canceled and rescheduled. And then we picked up my very clean white shirts, went out to BBQ, and then stopped by another family. They weren't home, so Hanna left a flower plant and a nice "we missed you" note on their doorstep. Finally, we went to the house of a lady who has been a Spanish teacher for over 40 years. She is going to meet with us weekly to teach us Spanish. A personal coach! She was very helpful.

Retired Mission Life. Friday.
Rejuvination Day. We spent the day mostly getting uplifted. District Council Meeting in the morning where we as missionaries supported and sustained each other. Then we ran to the Mission Office to pick up some housing paperwork. Back to the church/temple where we had some snacks and took the boys for a quick walk in the parking lot. Worshipped in the temple. Afterwards, we went to Walk In Chiropractic Spokane Valley where Hanna got a massage and I got a decompression and adjustment. (One must take care of themselves, especially at our age, or are service to others will be worthless.) And then we went to that Boston Place for some pizza. In the evening, we caught up on our missionary studies. And in between all that, we both were making phone calls setting up Steward Visits and Lesson Visits for next week.
We got rejuvinated, but also are exhausted.
Is this the same moose? This one has legs.
The boys were in the mood for wrestling first thing this morning. Gussy on top. Then Frivvy on top. They were fighting over my towel.
Gussy likes hanging his head out the window, even in the rain.
I had a great winning hand at Rummy.

Retired Mission Life. Saturday.
First off this morning, since I was tired of cooking breakfast every single morning, we declared it "Old People Go Out to Breakfast Day." We then proceeded to drive the backroads to Harvester. I had the usual Palouse Omelette. Hanna had the special, Reuben Benedict. She said it was yummy. Afterwards, we took the boys for a walk at the Spangle Cemetery.
We had a small bit of time to then do some of our study work. And then early afternoon, Justin and his boys arrived. We built a fire in the back yard and cooked up some hot dogs and Smores. Afterwards, we attempted to make Smore flavored ice cream. But, due to a huge Grand Dad failure of not putting the liquid part of the new ice cream maker into the freezer on time, it was served as Smore Flavored Milk. It was till delicious.
In the evening, we got cleaned up and went to Stake Conference where we heard discourses from some of our local church leaders included our Mission Leaders.
Pictures:
- Moose by night, herd of elk by day.
- Scenes from the Palouse backroads on our way to breakfast.
- Tons of grandkids pictures.
-And who in their right mind would park their presidential red Tesla in my JEEPS ONLY parking spot?? Sheesh. Just where do my kids get their sarcasm from anyways???
