4-19-25 Easter Week

 Retired Life. Sunday.

Happy Sabbath! Here, have a Jesus picture!
Actually Happy Palm Sunday. On Palm Sunday, Jesus rode into Jerusalem on his donkey, and the crowds welcomed Him with joy, taking off their coats and spreading them on the ground, waving palm leaves, and shouting "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!"
Our day: Sacrament Meeting. Men's meeting (which likely is my last with my congregation for 18 months as I anticipate being assigned to a different congregation when I start our mission next Monday.) Choir Practice.
Back home, I fixed a quick lunch, then took a long nap. We then read, watched some church videos, ate some leftovers, and chilled and rested.
Our choir is preparing for the Easter Service to be held next Sunday at 11am. Everyone is invited! We are singing two great hymns (that we have been practicing for months) that will move you spiritually. Address 13608 E Belle Terre Ave, Veradale, WA. You should come!

Retired Life. Monday.
After just hanging out for about a week, today I had a lot of small chores to do. Like putting clothes away, catching up the bills and books, fixing the grill cover, fixing the flag the wind blew apart, etc.
In the evening we watched a movie. The Terminal. Fun Tom Hanks movie. We're not sure we'll have times for movies once our mission starts, so we're watching a few now.
Also, Happy Holy Monday, the day that Jesus Cleansed the Temple. When Jesus arrived at the temple, He found the courts full of corrupt money changers. A sacred place had been turned into a den of thieves. Jesus overturned their tables and commanded them to move out and cleaned the temple.

Retired Life. Tuesday.
HAPPY TAX DAY!! I got a huge kick out of reading tax stories on X today and seeing the horrible tax advice folks were giving each other. Truly amusing, especially since it's no longer my job to correct anyone's horrible advice.
Old people need food day. Plan our week. Create delicious menus. Prepare a shopping list. Make the on-line order.
And then.....
Today was one of those run to town and run all day doing stuff days. We drove to CDA and picked up a rental pickup truck so we'd have transportation all day (rather than waiting in an auto dealer's show room). Then took our truck to the dealer in Post Falls for routine maintenance and checking it out for the DEATH WOBBLE. (They decided it did have a wobble, but needs new tires, not the DEATH WOBBLE.) Meanwhile we ate lunch at Legends in Liberty Lake. Then drove into the Valley to visit Walk In Chiropractic where Hanna got a massage and I got my back decompressed and then adjusted. (We both feel a lot better now!!) Then back to Post Falls to pick up the truck. Then to CDA to drop off the rental. Picked up the groceries. Then we rushed back to the Valley to have dinner with some of Hanna's siblings. Afterwards, we remembered we forgot to fill up with cheap Idaho gas and almost drove back just for that, but didn't. Long tiring rushed day.
Also, HAPPY HOLY TUESDAY!! Tuesday is the day that Jesus escaped to the Mount of Olives where he gave the Olivet Discourse, speaking in parables, to his disciples. I'm not sure I got the right picture for this event, but you get the idea. Hope you're getting ready for Easter. Don't forget to come to our Easter Services Sunday at 11 to hear Hanna and me sing in the Easter Choir.

Retired Life. Wednesday.
We stayed home and did stuff around the house. This included doing a bunch of missionary prep lessons, dealing with a pile of cardboard in the garage, getting Gus's new invisible fence collar to work, and mowing the lawn. Oh yea. And my famous turkey sausage omelettes for breakfast. We watched a prerecorded football game after dinner. Kansas State and Rutgers bowl game. Great come from behind win for the Wildcats. Also, have some pics of the boys playing and a pretty decent sunset.
Today is Holy Wednesday. Jesus went to Bethany on this day where a woman named Mary anointed him with costly oil of spikenard. While criticized by Judas Iscariot, the act was actually a very thoughtful and tender service.

Retired Life. Thursday.
A busy day as we prepare to become missionaries. In the morning, we attended our final Zoom meeting with our missionary mentors. They believe we are ready to get to work!
Immediately afterwards, we left for town (again). I got a haircut (again, this is just an annoying hygiene task for a guy and none of us expect anybody to get excited about how we look now...) (Except for Hanna...she did and does...get excited about my looks). Then to the suit store to return one they ordered for us that ended up not fitting. Exchanged it for a size that does (this included an exciting discussion with a pushy clerk there that thought I would look horrible in the size I requested...."Just sell me exactly what I want please!"). (I should now look impressive and appropriate when I report to our Mission Leader on Monday.) To the pharmacy AGAIN for a bunch more drugs. To the bank to get some cash. We ate sandwiches in the church parking lot and took the boys for a quick walk around the parking lot.
And then we worshipped in the temple. Everything seems to slow down and be peaceful in that building. Something I need, even in retirement.
Tacos for dinner after that. (I got Enchiladas Rancheras which is enchiladas with eggs on top of them. Made me miss Chile...)
HAPPY HOLY THURSDAY! On Thursday, Jesus spent the last night of his life with his disciples. He washed their feet and shared the feast of Passover and the Last Supper. Later, Jesus and his disciples went to the Garden of Gethsemane where He prayed in agony to God and his sweat became like blood dripping on the ground as he atoned for our sins and weaknesses. Later that evening, he was betrayed by one of His own disciples and arrested by the Sanhedrin.

Retired Life. Friday.
Old people go out to breakfast day! My favorite part is that I don't have to cook it. And beating Hanna at Rummy. At The Harvester.
A great day to drive around on the Palouse. Countless cool tractors and rigs out working today. The land is turning green.
Once back from breakfast and taking the boys on their walk, Hanna decided to bathe them. Frivvy was OK with it and tolerated it. Gus wasn't quite as happy. But, they all three are clean now and happy!
Various chores were completed today, like dusting the house top to bottom, recharging all the automotive emergency gear, working on getting Gus's invisible fence collar to work (with the help of Grok, I figured out I had the wrong collar, that explains a lot. EXCHANGED!)
In the evening, we attended our Congregation's Easter BBQ. Tons of great food and little kids running around with Easter Eggs.
After that, we started preparing for the family Easter Dinner that will be on Sunday. Tons of eggs boiled and some taters too.
Today is Good Friday, the saddest day of the Holy Week. On Friday, Christ endured soldiers' various insults and beatings, and some illegal trials. He was finally sentenced to death by crucifixion. From the cross, Jesus uttered "Forgive them, for they know not what they do." His body was later lowered and placed into a tomb.

Retired Life. Saturday.
Visit kids and grandkids and grandpets day!
We started in CDA at the Bounce House place where we met up with Alisha, Searsha, and Louis. I really can get in to bounce housing, but was quite disappointed when I saw the sign below. Certainly that is some sort of discrimination against old people going on. Regardless, we enjoyed watching the grandkids bounce.
Once finished there, we all met Dominick at Cafe Rio for some tacos.
From there, we drove to Elk and visited Del and Ella. They fed us delicious grilled chicken and baked taters. We were entertained by all our animals. Their two puppies. Their two cats. Our two beastly dogs. And, if you look carefully over Del's head in the picture, we also watched a lot of bird traffic as a nest is being built in that bird house.
We include several scenery shots too as it was a nice day to drive through the various countrysides in N Idaho and E Washington.
Today is Holy Saturday. While Jesus' body lay resting in the tomb, his disciples mourned his death. Perhaps in their misery, they recalled His previous words to them "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." Good words for all of to remember as we pass through life's trials.
