4-12-25 Our Dogs Don't Bite
Retired Life. Sunday.
Happy Sabbath. Here! Enjoy a Jesus Picture.
We are both fighting off colds, so we slept in. (This is a generally accepted behavior of retirement.) Watched General Conference. Took a nap. Watched more General Conference. Fed and visited with Del and Ella who came over for a visit. Took another nap. Then read some and now we're going back to bed again.
Before conference started, I predicted four locations where I thought they would announce new temples. I nailed one of them. Congrats to South Dakota! Last fall during our Mayo Checkup Trip, we worshipped in the temple in Omaha and then the one in Billings. Not including the breakdown, it took us over three days to drive from one to the other. Plus Rapid City had a bunch of congregations and were as friendly as all get out. That's how they made my list.
Retired Life. Monday.
We just hung around the house today and read and hung out and took a nap and read and watched the basketball game. I did venture out to get something at a local shop. While in there another customer was complaining that he had just been to his CPA's office to get his completed taxes and he owed a bunch of taxes. My first thoughts were 1, that is a good thing because it means he made money last year. And 2. he could use some decent tax planning. I immediately dug out my wallet and started searching for my business cards so I could hand him one and give him a quick pitch on our Tax Planning services. But then I realized I'M RETIRED!!! Close call.
In honor of that fine experience, I had Grok create some pictures just for you. One before retirement (note the huge amount of tax returns on my desk) and one after. And for fun, one of my Gladiator climbing up Mt St Helens. I took a bit of time with Grok to get them just right. And enjoyed every second of it because I'm retired and I thus had the time to do such fun stuff.
Enjoy!
Retired Life. Tuesday.
Old people must eat. In fact, the majority of our time seems to be spent on obtaining food, cooking it, eating it, and cleaning up afterwards. Perhaps we need one of those robots Tesla is touting to take care of those chores.
Plan out the week. Create scrumptious menus. Prepare a detailed shopping list. Order it on-line. Drive to town. Pick up drugs. Go through Taco Time drive thru and have tacos for lunch. Pick up groceries. Fill up with gas (over $4, seriously WA??), drive home, unload unpack.
Then a nap. Both Frivvy and Gus snuggled with me and took a nap too. Sweet dogs.
In the evening we watched a prerecorded football game. Marshall vs James Madison 2OT come-from-behind game. Fun to watch.
Pictures:
- Ham and Eggs for breakfast.
- I let the boys out to do their thing in the yard and they both came in covered with mud. (I will now need to inspect the yard to see what they ruined.) The result was baths for both of them.
- And finally, the men in the house hanging out on the love seats. One of us is reading, one is chewing a Moose Paddle, and the other is taking yet another nap.
Retired Life. Wednesday.
Hello friends of Greg and Hanna. (My humans) This is Frivolous Tax Deduction (yes, that's my full name) also known as Frivvy. I am stuck writing this because Greg is a bit sick. Nothing serious. A sinus infection. He's on antibiotics. And you know how guys are when they get sick, he required Hanna's 100% attention all day long. So I have to fill in. I had a great day, as did my bestest of best friend, Gus.
For some reason which I don't understand, at bed time last night, Gus crawled under the bed. The humans thought it was OK and didn't make him come out. So when the sun came up this morning, he was still there. No problem, he crawled out and jumped on the bed and smothered our humans with dog slobber to let our humans know how much he loves them.
Then we ran to the back door and begged to go out. (Our bladders are only so big!) And then, we ate yummy breakfast. Next, Gus and me went out on the deck. It rained last night and was really wet out there, so we rolled around in it until we were soaked. Then came in and shook off. And then we wrestled for a couple of hours. Next, we took our morning naps.
When we woke up, our humans were eating lunch, so we took our places at the feet of their bar stools. Once lunch was done, we wrestled some more. And then took our afternoon nap. (Did you know that dogs require 20 hours of sleep each day?)
In the evening, after our dinner (my favorite thing of the entire day) the humans watched some TV and Gus and me got up on our couch and chewed our bones. Now I'm exhausted and ready to go to bed.
Greg brags about how much fun retired life is. But it ain't nothing as good as a dog's life.
Woof Woof!!
Retired Life. Thursday.
So, do retired folks get sick days? The answer is yes. (Thanks to Frivvy for filling in for me yesterday.) I took another one today, best that I could. Rest is good for what ails you.
The only real thing I did was drive Hanna to her infusion. She was healthy and they actually infused her and she started back on the Chemo Pills. Yea!! Hanna's driving privileges are limited, so I got to drive her. And since I'm not feeling well, I got to hang out in the truck with the boys (not bad company) while she went in alone. (Coughing on immunocompromised cancer patients is really frowned upon...) Gus did a great job of entertaining the cancer patients as they came and went from the clinic. So cute.....
That was pretty much it for today.
Retired Life. Friday.
Here. Have a picture of Gus getting ready to sleep under our bed. He did sleep under the first night he tried. Since then, he doesn't stay long and shortly after the lights go out, he slides back out and seeks snuggles from us or Frivvy.
A sick day for retired folks basically means that instead of running around the house trying to get things done, I stay in my chair or bed all day. I felt pretty much better by evening, but still took it easy today, mostly because as a retired person, I can. After breakfast, I took a nice nap. Then I got up and read a bit. We had a Zoom Meeting with our Missionary Mentors. (10 days of normal civilian life left...). Lunch. Then I thought about another nap, but wasn't sleepy, feeling better, but not enough to go do something, so I watched a movie. We Are Marshall. Great movie about overcoming intense adversity. How not to be a victim.
I fixed fried chicken for dinner. (Hey! I actually got up and did something!) And then we watched a couple of shows. Hoping things are back to normal tomorrow.
Retired Life. Saturday.
The last Saturday of Tax Season. One of the busiest work days of the entire year as we prepared hundreds of extensions. After several employee fails in calculating taxes due manually, I made it my job and filed them all out myself. At least one year the pile was futile and Hanna and I stayed up all night filing them. Good times. So how did the last day of tax season look during retirement?
On the way home, we stopped at Farm House Cafe in Cheney and had a great dinner. Also, Hanna made friends with a bull while we were there.
And the retirement sick days I just took? When we ran our business, neither of us took any sick days. Over 30 years of running that firm and the only sick days I took were about a week when I got Covid really bad and would have rather just died than gone in to do taxes. (Hanna finally dragged me to Urgent Care or I probably wouldn't be here now). A sinus infection? I would have just worked through it.
Retirement is blissful. Rest is good. Someone else can do the extensions. We enjoyed the road trip and the worship time.
