Blog 3-8-25 Gus!!!
Retired Life. Sunday.
Happy Sabbath! Here, have a Jesus Picture. He's coming to rescue you.
The usual busy day. Took Elder Longhurst to his house to get something to drive. Sacrament Meeting. Sunday School. Choir Practice. (Practicing some pretty cool Easter Hymns). Took the Sacrament into Hanna's Mom.
Back home, we grabbed a quick leftover lunch, took a nap. did some reading, watched a couple of church videos. And then the phone rang. Hanna's Mom was struggling and they were sending her to ER. So, off we ran to the hospital. By the time we got there, between 8 and 9 sometime, Mom was doing fine and the doctor was discharging her to go back to the care facility. Her medical issue had resolved itself enroute apparently. But the paperwork moves slowly in a hospital, so it was past 11pm when the ambulance finally was able to take her back. We said our goodbyes and left shortly after. We sat with her during her stay to help her feel comfortable and not lonely.
Us old people are not used to being up that late. But retirement includes trying to stay alive and keeping those around us alive too. So, mission accomplished.
The main gig today was not taxes. It was getting a food order made. So, I planned out the week. Made up menus. Creating a shopping list. Hanna took inventory to see of that list we need to buy. Then I typed it into the cool Safeway app. And wahlah. Groceries are ordered and will be brought out to our truck tomorrow afternoon. (We're not doing the usual Plummer trip due to a funeral we need to go to tomorrow.)
Also, I took at least a couple of naps today after staying out so late last night. That means it was a great day.
I made up some BBQ Ribs for dinner and then we watched a prerecorded football game. Rams vs Eagles in the snow.
Retired life is bliss.
Retired Life. Tuesday.
Hey friends! Meet Gus! (See the picture below.) He will soon be the newest addition to our family. We've been discussing getting a bro for Frivvy for a long time. Got the opportunity to get Gus from a great family (and relative) and after a lot of discussion today, decided to go for it. We'll pick him up in a few weeks when we travel to Pocatello. So excited!
We celebrated the fact that it was neither one of us in the casket by going out to lunch afterwards. Darby's. Salads. And some Rummy.
Old people getting dressed drama. I'm trying to find decent white shirts to wear on our mission starting next month. A while back, I bought the pictured shirt below. I swear that says Non-Iron, which one would think means it doesn't have to be ironed. But, it always comes out of the dryer totally wrinkled and is actually hard to iron...requires a ton of water and/or steam. Did I get ripped off? What the heck?
After our celebratory lunch, we picked up the groceries. My favorite part is the app that tells us how many servings of protein, veggies, dairy and grains we bought. Hurrah for protein!
And we stressed ourselves out by watching the BYU game tonight. Double OT win by 3 points against a very tough Iowa State team in Iowa. We both need our blood pressure checked now!
Retired Life. Wednesday.
The plan was for today to be one of those days when we stay home and get stuff done around the house. But then the phone rang....
The Sister Missionaries asked if we could join them this morning in worshipping in the temple. A couple from our congregation was going there for the first time and they were hoping we would join them. Hey! Sure! Why not? We're retired and can do stuff like that. So off we went. We had a great experience in the temple.
Afterwards, we went to JC Penney in search of some white shirts. Found some that we can order. Hoping they don't wrinkle.
In the evening, I baked up a batch of my famous BBQ Bacon Meatloaf while Hanna went to visit her mom, who is struggling again tonight.
Then we watched a bit of Friday Night Lights and called in a night.
Typical retired life. And it is nice being needed by the missionaries. We kinda felt like missionaries a bit!
Retired Life. Thursday.
I got to run to town again today. Three days in a row. We didn't plan things that way, but it happened. Today's trip was so Frivvy could go to the Vet's and get his Bordello shot. He gets lots of attention there (because he is so friendly and cute) and loves it and doesn't even notice the needle. He was a good boy and sat still on the scale for once. And he weighed in at 91 pounds! Huge beast!
Neither of us took any pictures, so I had AI do so. Here, have a picture of Frivvy and me at the Vet's Office!
Retired Life. Friday.
I woke up, saw it was March 7th, one of the busiest tax days of the entire year, and opened my calendar. Found I didn't have even one appointment. Then I remembered I was retired. And like most retired couples, we went out to breakfast. Harvester. Omelettes. Plus Elder Longhurst came with us and got a breakfast bowl that looked scrumptious. I'll have to try it next time.
Hanna visited her mom, who seems to be doing a bit better.
And I fixed old people's steak for dinner. Then we watched a Clint Eastwood movie.
Time at home today included topping off the hot tub and changing out the filter. Changing the filter on the CPAP. Scraping the tape off the inside back window of the truck where the temporary license plate paper was. (It's about time, right?). Created an itinerary and plan for our upcoming trip to Pocatello. Diagnosed the security camera that ain't working. Appears it needs a new SD card. Ordered it. Dusted the house top to bottom. And that was plenty enough.
Retired Life. Saturday.
Pictures:
- about as big of traffic jam as we get here in Fairfield.
- Justin and grandsons came for a visit. Frivvy was very happy to see them and out of his mind excited. We had tacos.
- we made homemade oreo cookie ice cream. Delicious!
- Hanna's mom was put on hospice today and she had some visitors.
