3-29-25 Welcome Gussy!!

 Retired Life. Sunday.

Happy Sabbath! Here, have a Jesus Picture!
Frivvy loved being able to look out the window over the couch and keep track of the people and cars in the minidome parking lot. But the fun had to end and we left for home. But not without excitement!
We found a congregation to attend church with at a convenient time. Very nice folks. So many people introduced themselves to us and shook our hands. Very nice.
After sack lunch lunches, we drove to Idaho Falls and there we <drum roll........> picked up Gus (aka Gussy), the newest member of the family! He met us at his prior human's door with the usual excited moving of every part of his body, jumping at us, and trying to lick us! Him and me bonded immediately. Then we took him to meet Frivvy and after a few sniffs, they started to play and wrestle.
Once in the truck, Frivvy finally realized he had competition. No longer the only child. He sulked and pouted while Gussy loved the ride in the truck. But Frivvy got over it quickly and soon they were sharing a window. We soon arrived at our Airbnb in Butte and they immediately started a huge wrestling match until they both dropped into comas from exhaustion.
They are best buds now and Gussy is the coolest dog ever. Picture me trying to drive while a wet nose pokes me in the back of the neck every few minutes and then licks my face. I think he likes me..

Retired Life. Monday.
Certainly you've seen those Reels where a Golden Retriever wakes its human up early in the morning because they want breakfast or to go out or to play. That has never fit Frivvy's style. He loves his sleep. He is usually the last one to leave the bed. And sometimes it takes a lot to get him to leave then. Enter Gus into the picture.....
Early this morning, I was awakened by a huge dog, sitting on my chest, licking my face, grinning the entire time. He was ready to go! Good thing he is a cute dog.
Travel day. Long day. We drove from Butte to home. We stopped several times for breaks. It rained a bit. We listened to a lot of Dave Ramsey. And we made it home.
And then Frivvy had the awesome experience of showing Gus around the house, deck, and yard. And then they wrestled. Frivvy even shared his toys. Fun times.

Retired Life. Tuesday.
Grocery Day. Plan our week. Make up scrumptious menus. Create grocery shopping list. Drive to Worley. Eat salads at Red Tail and play a bit of Uno. (Hanna had us switch to Uno because she was having a hard time beating me at Rummy...), Go for a hike on the Trail of the CDAs. Get the groceries. Drive home. Unload. Put everything away. That was pretty much our day.
And then we watched a prerecorded football game. Georgia vs Georgia Tech rivalry 8OT game. Entertaining and some good football there.
Gus is a lot of fun. He loves to climb up onto the console on our love seat and peer over me to the yard and street below. See my view...
Both dogs loved the hike. 70 degrees out. They saw a couple of German Shepherds, a Sheep Dog, two black cows, a bunch of chickens and ducks. and two other families with young kids that wanted to pet them. Fun times!
Tonight, Frivvy went back to sleeping on his back with legs in the air on his couch. He does not strike this pose unless he is 100% comfortable with everyone that is in the room and can be vulnerable. Friendship test with Gus? Passed EASILY.
And finally, here, have a great Palouse sunset picture. We are all thankful for the chance to live in such a beautiful, peaceful place.

Retired Life. Wednesday.
Just what is that beast on our deck? The real question is, is it Frivvy or is it Gus?
Today, Luigi and his family came and spent the day. We fed them Pot Roast and they provided service doing projects that we need done before we start our mission. Such service is greatly appreciated.
Plus August is still very cute and makes the visit worth it. Well, actually, all three of them are very cute.
They fixed the swing set (Hanna tried it out afterwards and approved), dug the grass out of Hanna's new flower garden to be, and rehung our flags that had been blown down by strong Palouse winds, among other various chores.
I spent time today paying bills (Gus, who is now inseparable from me hung out under my table while I did this). I also sprayed weeds, sorted through my mission attire, updated the antivirus on the laptops. Fun stuff.
Finally two pictures. A typical one of Gus who always wants to play and have attention. And one of Frivvy, sprawled out on the floor, exhausted from hanging with the young, energetic Gus.
Speaking of missions, we received word that we have been opted out of the MTC via Zoom experience. We just want to get to work and will now be able to do so, starting on April 21st.

Retired Life. Thursday.
Today was supposed to be Hanna's infusion day plus our worship in the temple day. But everything went haywire. Every infusion day begins with a blood draw and health exam to make sure Hanna's body is healthy enough to handle the infusion. For the first time ever, Hanna failed the health exam. She has been fighting off some cold-like viruses and infections and other stuff, and that, plus the related antibiotics, wreaked havoc. The doctor also is having her pause her daily chemo drugs until she is better...probably about a week. So, extended meeting with the doctor's office, but no infusion. So, we went to Denny's for lunch. And then were supposed to go back to the cancer lab for another sample. But it closed early. So they sent us to the main one at the hospital. And it took forever for them just to collect a sample drop off. And we thus missed our appointment at the temple. Sad. We then picked up a few things in town (new leash for Gus because he chewed through his, which was also a new one, hardware for the projects on Saturday, prescriptions, and some minor groceries that weren't available in Plummer, and cheap Idaho gas.)
Once home, we watched the BYU game. Sigh...........not our best day.
But, here, have some pictures of our cute, adorable dogs. While Hanna ran into the hospital lab, I parked at the drop off lane. Gus stuck his head out the window and smiled at everyone that went by. Most commented and smiled back. I wonder if Kootenai Health would pay us to sit there every day...I mean, we cheered up a bunch of people.
- From the wildlife cam. Proof that Gus and I are inseparable. He is literally my shadow.
- Even Annie the cat has made friends with Gus.
- Both boys taking their morning nap after our morning walk.
- Snuggly naps while they wait for us to eat lunch.
And oh, PS, Hanna is doing just fine. Today's debacle is standard procedure and typical. Balancing the side effects of the cancer-killing drugs vs the cancer itself. Taking a week break from meds will give her strength and health. We go back in next Thursday to resume treatments.

Retired Life. Friday.
Old people go to breakfast day. We drove over to the Casino and had a nice breakfast at Red Tail. And a few games of Uno.
We hated the fact that we didn't make it to the temple yesterday. The temple worship brings us great peace and blessings. So we went into town today special to worship. Seemed like a special trip, but then Hanna's Cancer Doctor ordered a prescription for her, so we had two reasons.
In the evening, the Sister Missionaries came over. We fed them pork chops and baked potatoes. They provided us a strong dosage of the Holy Spirit and a message about Easter. We love these missionaries and can't wait to be missionaries ourselves. 24 more days!!
Since I didn't take a lot of pictures today, here, have some of Gus and Frivvy. Cutest dogs ever!

Retired Life. Saturday.
The alarm went off early and the day started early because our three sons were coming from Sandpoint, Elk, and Pullman to help with projects. They installed a dog door, decorative climbing gear, all sorts of lighting, moved some furniture, installed a security camera, put together a lawn tractor trailer, buried the dog fence, moved a ton of gravel, and many other things.
See the picture of the tough work trucks, and the Tesla, in our driveway. Not sure how the Tesla fits in, but is likely because it is faster than any other rig parked there today.
One topic that seems to be consistent across the old retired folks like me, is the long project list that never gets shorter. True. And every old retired man that I mention it too shakes his head in agreement. So, I did the unthinkable. I asked for help. And our four sons were more than willing, especially since it will keep us from worrying about all these projects while we serve as missionaries. I was touched by the service. I never ask for help. But I should. Lesson learned.
At the end of the day, Justin took us for a ride in his "Presidential Red" Tesla to Harvester for some late lunch/early dinner. It was a nice ride. I may need to get me one of those.
Great retired day. Family is everything. Getting more prepared for the mission.
