3-22-25 Road Trip!
Retired Life. Sunday.
Happy Sabbath! Here, have a Jesus Picture!
Sacrament Meeting. Sunday School. Choir Practice. Took the Sacrament into Hanna's Mom, who was having a good day.
Great day of rest....
Retired Life. Monday.
The usual routine in the morning...reading scriptures, reading another book, doing some mission prep reading, bacon and eggs for breakfast. With a couple of naps in between all that.
In the afternoon, I worked on catching up the books, paying bills, looking at medical bills, all that stuff. We also spent some time with some good friends of ours helping them figure out Family History stuff and helping them prepare to worship in the temple.
In the evening, we watched a prerecorded football game. Commanders vs Eagles NFC Championship. I'm not sure how anyone who watched that game would have been surprised by the outcome of the Superbowl.
Hoping to get more done tomorrow, but not too worried about it. We're retired and can do what we want!
I failed to take any pictures, so Grok drew the below picture of Frivvy and me on our walk. Enjoy!
Retired Life. Tuesday.
I woke up suddenly this morning in a panic. "Yesterday was the deadline for corporate tax returns and I don't remember filing any at all!!!" Then I remembered that I am retired, rolled over, and went back to sleep...
Today ended up being a "pick up the groceries" day plus "take care of medical issues" day.
We stopped at a Hobby Store on the North Side to pick up a cool birthday present for our grandson. Then stopped at the UPS Store to mail it to him. To the bank to deposit a check. Then finally to my Doctor's Office to get an allergy shot. (I've had congestion and sniffles for almost four months now.......tired of it. Hope this shot works.) Ate lunch at that Red Bird place. They gave me a free appetizer from their loyalty program, which I took with me because it was way too much to eat. Stopped at the Pharmacy in the Valley to pick up some drugs for Hanna. Picked up the groceries. Drove to Post Falls so Hanna could visit the Urgent Care place there. She's been fighting off something for several weeks and her lungs are congested real bad. Chest X-Ray time. They said it looked like she was recovering from Pneumonia and prescribed her some antibiotics. And then we drove back to the Valley to the Pharmacy again to pick them up. On the way, we stopped at the Centennial Trail at Liberty Lake and went for a hike.
Busy day. Still better than filing corporate extensions though.
In my missionary studies today, I came across this scripture which gave me pause:
"Be patient in afflictions, for thou shalt have many; but endure them, for, lo, I am with thee, even unto the end of thy days."
Trying to be patient...
Retired Life. Wednesday.
The security/game camera is now sitting on the back deck where I am monitoring how it is working. I'm not sure it is charging correctly, but it is taking picture. Below you can see a picture of some sort of beast that came by.
We had another meeting with our Mentoring Missionaries today. Great stuff we are preparing for. I also filled out my brackets (Houston and Duke), and we put together a list of projects we need done soon. Our four sons/sons-in-law will be coming over soon to get working on them so we won't have to worry about them while we are serving our mission. Great grown kids!
In today's study, I came across this scripture that gave me pause:
But if ye will turn to the Lord with full purpose of heart, and put your trust in him, and serve him with all diligence of mind, if ye do this, he will, according to his own will and pleasure, deliver you out of bondage.
Feel like you are in some sort of bondage? Serve.
Retired Life. Thursday.
ROAD TRIP!!! We're on our way to Pocatello to see family. Made it as far as Deer Lodge, which is exactly half way between Fairfield and Pocatello to the mile. (We measured it. Trust me. We did.)
Pictures:
-Frivvy travels well, but doesn't get too excited about it. He got depressed when he saw us packing...and took a nap. Also, he really has no idea that he only has a couple of days left being the only child...
- Packing the truck is like a game of Tetris.
- Lots of snow on Look Out Pass. We drove through one snow storm after another once we crossed into Montana, but nothing was sticking.
- Frivvy made himself at home in the dog friendly motel room.
- Montana Steak for dinner.
Yes, we are taking two full days to get there. Yes, we know most folks do it in one day. But we are old and retired and have lots of time and move slow and don't care. So, two days it is.
Retired Life. Friday.
Simple travel day. We drove from Deer Lodge to Pocatello. Saw cool Montana Mountains covered in snow. Ate sack lunches for lunch. Checked in at the "Minidome" Airbnb late afternoon. (I wore a Bengal Shirt just to fit in...) And we ate dinner at Red Rabbit Grill, aka former Prime Cut Meat Market. I was a cook there many decades ago when I was in High School. We had to check it out. The building is still the same, although it has obviously been remodeled a few times. The food and service was great. And there was no huge plastic cow out front. I learned how to grill a good steak back in that kitchen.
Frivvy loves this home and is excited. I failed to take any pics though. It wasn't for not trying. He keeps taking naps in the bath tub. But when he sees me coming with my phone, he jumps up and gets out....
Retired Life. Saturday.
The main thing today was to worship in the beautiful Pocatello Temple with family. 15 of us spent time worshipping there and doing some ordinance work for our father/grandfather. It was an incredible experience! Family is everything.
Afterwards, we all shared a lunch at Mandarin House.
We then watched the BYU game. Now, I'm a bit confused. I wore an ISU shirt because we are practically on the ISU campus and because that's where I went to school. Hanna also wore an ISU shirt, and I'm not sure why. She usually wears a BYU shirt on game day. But what the heck. She looks good in orange! Congrats to BYU. Sweet 16!
