3-15-25 What time is it now??
Retired Life. Sunday.
Happy Sabbath! Here, have a Jesus Picture!
I woke up this morning so confused. Some of the clocks said it was 7, some said it was 8. Which ones are correct? In addition, the alarm on my phone later went off at 7:45, even though it was set at 8:30. So confusing. The app developer is probably having a great laugh!
I used to be really grouchy about the switch to Daylight Savings Time. I mean, losing an hour during tax season? Preposterous!! And no time to nap or anything. But now that I'm retired, that isn't the big deal. I can now take a nap any time I want and it's ok. The big deal is for an old man like me to figure out what time it is already. And it appears that it will take an entire day of my retirement to change all the clocks (if I can figure out which ones to change). I feel ripped off of an entire day of retirement!!!
Today: We went in to church early to be part of a good friend of our's ordination. Then Sacrament Meeting, Men's Meeting, Choir Practice, and then we came home and inexplicably needed naps.
After the naps, we had a late lunch, then read, watched some church videos, and then watched a couple of shows.
Still not sure what time it is, but it feels like it is time to go to bed. Or take another nap...
Retired Life. Monday.
Today I started preparing to be a missionary again. We meet with our Mentoring Couple this Friday.
I spent most of today updating the 50 million clocks we have in our house. I did not fall even though a couple of them required a stool or a ladder.
Once that major and frustrating task was completed (I think I'll write my politicians about this right now...) then I moved on to other things. Paid bills. Spent significant time on the phone to the billing lady at the Cancer Clinic. While the medical professionals there are stupendous and incredible, the billing staff is fairly clueless. I ended up writing a letter to their "dispute" department asking them to just write off the amount billed due to the amount of time of mine they wasted trying to explain their costs to me and not being able to.
I needed a nap after that.
In the afternoon, I changed the oil on the tractor. I think I did it correctly... Now, is it the tractor that I mix the oil with gas before putting it in? Or was that the chainsaw? We'll see if it runs next snow storm. Or next time the lawn needs mowed.
In the evening, we watched a prerecorded football game. Cougs vs Beavs. The only PAC12 game played this past season. Huge benefit of being old like me is I remember nothing at all about the game, so it was like watching it live. I was sad when the Cougs lost. But it was a great game to watch.
Retired Life. Tuesday.
Hey! I got the game and security camera working again! It took 83 pictures in our kitchen. Two different creatures plus a huge dog were caught on film.
Food day. Planned our week. Created menus. Prepared a shopping list. Drove to Plummer. Ate Salads and played Rummy at the Gateway. Took Frivvy for his walk on the Trail of the CDAs. Filled up with cheap gas. Bought the groceries. Drove home. Unloaded. Put it all away. Kind of. There are still some miscellaneous new groceries sitting on the shelf.
In the evening, we shared a dinner with Hanna's Mom and Dave and Chris (aka Elder and Sister Longhurst).
Retired Life. Wednesday.
Our favorite day of the month, Revlimid Day!! We're grounded to the house while we wait for the FedEx Dude to show up with Hanna's deadly cancer-killing Chemo pills. He did make it, even in the rain. And then bonus! Banner showed up with just over 600 gallons of propane for us! Exciting!
I worked on some projects around the house. I conducted scientific experiments with Resin and Hardener on the plastic water storage tank in our basement to seal up the leak it has. Hopefully it is now no longer a leak. I worked on emptying the water softener of its brick-like hardened salt so I can see if it is working or not. And I took a nap in there too.
Taking Frivvy for a walk resulted him in needing an immediate bath.
And in the evening, we finally celebrated my birthday, which was last month. Back then on the actual day, Hanna ran to the toilet and puked before she could even wish me a happy birthday. And when it was time to go out to dinner that night to celebrate, she was too sick to leave the hotel room, so I ate in the hotel lobby all by myself. No problem. We just postponed things until tonight. You can do that when you're retired. We went to Chinook. Shrimp appetizer. Steak. French Fries. And then dessert. I'm sugared all up now.
Retired Life. Thursday.
I turned on the TV to see what the latest news was while fixing breakfast and....the BYU game was on!! So we spent most of our morning watching them beat Iowa State.
In the afternoon, we took the weekly trip to town to take care of medical appointments and other stuff. We started at Labcorp where I got a blood draw. Doing some allergy testing to see why I've had a runny or stuffed nose on and off for about four months. Trying to see what changed in our lives to cause a new allergy. Then to our favorite Chiropractor, Walk In Chiropractic - Spokane Valley, for Hanna to get a massage and for me to get my back decompressed and adjusted. Sack lunches for lunch. Then to the UPS store to return some Amazon stuff. And then we worshipped in the temple. Afterwards, we picked up some drugs at the pharmacy (this was Frivvy's favorite stop...he is popular there and they always give him a treat. He climbs into the front of the truck and slobbers on me while he's waiting...), then into the Grocery Store to pick up some stuff we can't get in Plummer. Finished the night with a game of Rummy and some grub at Fancy Like.
Doing our best to stay alive...and comfortable.
Retired Life. Friday.
Old people go out to breakfast day. Best part is someone else is doing the cooking. Played some more Rummy. Hanna had a Gluten-Free Breakfast Sandwich, I had a Meat-lovers Scramble. I failed to take a picture before we ate it all, so I took one after we ate it all.
Went for a hike on the Trail of the CDAs. Topped off the JEEP with cheap Idaho gas.
Back at the house, I did various minor chores, one of which was testing out my science project with Resin and Hardener on the leaky water storage tank in the basement. Good News: the leak is fixed. Bad News: I overflowed the tank and flooded the basement for the fifth time since we bought the storage tanks. I was being careful too! Checking it every five minutes to make sure I didn't have a spill and that the Resin held. Seemed like it was taking longer than I figured, so I decided to go ten minutes, which ended up being 15. And it ran over. Sigh...................the basement floor is spotless now though.
My order of white shirts arrived today. And we met with our Missionary Mentors via Zoom for some training. This mission thing is getting real.
And it's pie day, so Hanna baked me a pumpkin pie. Delicious!
In the evening, we watched a movie. Twisters. It was better than I thought it would be.
Retired Life. Saturday.
The pictures tell the story...
- Yup. It snowed last night. The fresh grass and flowers that were coming up (or at least thinking about coming up) were not happy. But, Frivvy was very happy! He loves snow.
- My laptop has been spinning on "Restarting" for about 24 hours now. Sad. But I bought the thing in 2017, so maybe it has had enough.
- We drove into CDA and met up with Dominick and Alisha and the grandkids for burgers. They're doing well and had just finished up participating in a shooting tournament.
- We went to the DXL Store, one of my favorite stores of all time. They have large sizes that fit me and an attendant there that even helps me pick out the right clothes in the right sizes. (rare service any more). I bought a nice Charcoal suit to wear on the mission. I also found a very cool shirt to wear, but Hanna's not sure it is mission appropriate. I think it is though, it will draw lots of attention to me!
- And...seems I can't eat without staining my shirt any more. Is this a sign of old age???
- For dinner, we met up with Del and Ella and Justin at that Down Under place for some steaks. Talked a lot about Tesla, Space X, missions, taxes, and new dogs.
