Retired Life. Sunday.
Happy Sabbath! Here, have a Jesus Picture!
The small town of Fairfield was flooded this morning! Water over the highway in several areas. The town park covered in water. Fun times! Even getting to church can be an adventure! Retired life is full of adventures!
For the record, knowing there was a route around the flood, we went down to the flood anyways to take pictures. I decided it wasn't bad enough to not drive through, so off we went. Stayed slow and kept all four wheels on the ground. No problem for a JEEP.
Sacrament. Men's Meeting. We skipped Choir because neither of us were feeling well. Took the Sacrament into Mom. Watched last night's BYU vs Arizona game. Took a nap. Watched some church videos. Listened to the wind howl and the rain thrash down on us almost all day.
That's it. And we're retired, so no going to work tomorrow. Trying to come up with a good excuse to go out and explore the flooding though. But really, who needs an excuse? Let's just go!

Retired Life. Monday.
I was awake early this morning, early enough to take a pic of the sunrise. Jet lag, no doubt. Because I'm retired, I was able to go back to bed a bit later without problems or consequences.
Once I was up for good, I looked at today's schedule and there was absolutely nothing there. A great day!
I got caught up with things around the house. Went on a nice walk in warmer weather with Frivvy. Did up the family books. Spent time on the phone with United Airlines Customer Service trying to get my refund for the flights home we missed and had to rebook with Alaska. "But how did you get home if you didn't use these tickets???" The issue got escalated to a problem resolution team that is supposed to call me within five days. Sigh..........
And in the evening, I watched the Superbowl again. That may make you yawn. But as an avid Eagle's fan, it was the best played game I have ever seen. Plus it was nice to rewind and rewatch certain plays to see what everyone was doing. Fun times.

Retired Life. Tuesday.
Today turned into a Cancer Caretaker Day. Hanna got really sick to her stomach last Wednesday Night. She pretty much didn't eat for four days and had very little water. And quit her Chemo meds. She kept saying she was fine and insisted on going to the funeral Saturday and church on Sunday. After some caretaker threats (if you don't start eating, I'm going to haul you off to the ER...) she did eat and it was painful. And she agreed (after I put on my Mom Voice) to stay home and not run around visiting family and friends until she is better. So, she finally conceded and even called the cancer clinic. They were concerned and gave her some direction, which included resting and gradually starting to eat and get hydrated again. After some nauseous meds, she started eating a bit, but the meds ran out fast. So, today I got to do a pharmacy run. (Hanna wasn't feeling up to going with me, so Frivvy stayed home with her. Which is a good thing). I also planned out the week, made up menus, created a grocery list, placed an on-line order, and then picked up the groceries while in town. Plus I ate lunch at Burger King. Woo Hoo!! (Does that count as my five bullet points??)
Hanna's doing better tonight, thankfully. She started the chemo pills again today. And has an infusion and getting checked on appointment on Thursday. Everything will be fine. No plans to go anywhere tomorrow either, which is another good thing. Rest is always good.
Anyways, after rain and wind all day, there was a good sunset out. And Frivvy enjoyed it too. Got pictures of both.
Never dull around here, even with retirement.

Retired Life. Wednesday.
Hung around the house and got a few things done.
Fixed turkey sausage omelettes for breakfast. (Yes, Hanna's eating again...) Cleaned up trash from the road that blew out of our garbage can. (When we do have a wind storm, it is always on garbage day.). Fixed the JEEP sign that the wind blew off the garage. Put the driveway marker back up that the wind had blown down. Took down the rest of the Christmas Lights. (The ground was still a bit frozen, but I managed.) Took down the Winter picture in our entrance way and replaced it with a Spring Picture. Finished up the taxes for my Dad's Estate. Shopped for white dress shirts for the mission (with no luck. I think I better actually walk into a store and try one on...) And then in the evening, watched prerecorded Notre Dame vs Ohio State Championship Game. (We were in Chile when it came on and it didn't air down there. They did air several good Futbol aka Soccer games though) Also, as a dutiful retired old person, I took a nap.
Speaking of taxes, I'm really miffed that I got a $700+ refund this year. Huge waste of money giving it to the government interest free for a year. I usually aim to owe a small bit. But, I received a retroactive pension payout from the Government who took over the pension plan of my former employer, who is now bankrupt. And they insisted on taking withholding out. There was no arguing with them. So, yea. Automatic interest-free loan to the federal government. Sad.

Retired Life. Thursday.
We started the day off by traveling to Post Falls to the Cancer Clinic for Hanna's monthly infusion and blood draw and test for cancer. For the first time ever, the lobby/waiting room was empty. It is usually full of Cancer Warriors and their dutiful Caretakers. But there were none there today. As we sat there, all alone, by ourselves, we wondered if the cancer folks had all been cured or had all died. Good question...
The infusion went well and they even deemed Hanna healthy enough to tolerate the infusion, even after not eating for four days.
Afterwards, we bought cheap Idaho gas (3.04) and stopped by Lowes for some yard supplies. Then we went to wash the truck, but the line was horrendously and neverendingly long, so the truck is still dirty. After taking Frivvy for a short walk around the church parking lot, we worshipped in our temple.
Afterwards, we went over the Luigi and Brooklyn's. They fed us a scrumptious meal and let us play with our youngest grandbaby. And he finally got to open his late Christmas Present, although it was clear he was more interested in the bag it came in.
Grandkid snuggles and good home-cooked meals that we don't have to prepare ourselves are blessings and keep us old people going.

Retired Life. Friday.
Old People Go Out To Breakfast Day! My favorite part is that I don't have to cook it myself. Harvest Moon. I got pancakes. Hanna got an omelette. The breakfast included Rummy.
And then another day of doing things around the house. I replaced some bricks on our fireplace patio thingy. I put some more Christmas Cords that had been frozen into the berms away. (Even the berms are quickly melting). Prepared the Estate Tax Returns for mailing. And shopped on-line for some new T-Shirts. (The ones I wear now tout a Spokane Team that I know nothing about...turns out it is a soccer team...but I still no nothing about it.) These are all ISU Bengal T-Shirts.
We put together a dinner for the Sister Missionaries who came, ate it, and provided us a great spiritual lesson. For the first time ever, I served my infamous Stewart Stew to someone outside the family. They really liked it and even asked for seconds.
And then Hanna and I had our weekly date night/movie night. Juror #2. We both love legal dramas.
Finally, our Preach My Gospel books came. We can now get in full gear preparing for our mission.
Great sunset again too. Should be planets aligning out there, right?

Retired Life. Saturday.
Today we obtained a new family member. Our nephew, Elder Longhurst, is back from his mission in Brazil for a few months while an injury he has heals. And since his parents are out of town, he will be a member of our family for a week. We picked him up at the airport and broke him in good by taking him out to burgers at Zips, to the Eastern Washington vs ISU game, and then home for a family dinner with Justin and Del and Ella.
Mascot Swoop took a huge liking to him and was excited that a missionary was at the game. We all enjoyed the game, especially since the Bengals dominated the Eagles, winning by 24 points for once. (It was almost as good as the Superbowl).
We fed the kids Chilean style steak. And talked a lot about the apocolyptic end of the world and what would fair better, Starlink or Ham Radios. (Hanna and I decided we need both...)
Busy day for old retired folks. But it was enjoyable. GO BENGALS!!
