Stupid Fuses 12-7-24
Retired Life. Sunday.
The alarm went off way too early so we could make it to church on time. We looked at the below Jesus Picture, remembered why going to church makes us happy, and got up and got going. Even Frivvy.
Sacrament Meeting. Sunday School. Choir Practice.
We then took the Sacrament in to Hanna's Mom.
Back home again, we were exhausted and tired and all that. So we went for a nap. And woke up HOURS later. Old people need rest.
In the evening we read, ate Thanksgiving leftovers, and watched the last of The Chosen.
Nice sunset out tonight.
Retired Life. Monday.
All day long. All day. It was foggy and cold out. It didn't even warm up enough to melt last night's frost. So, we didn't leave the house except to take Frivvy on his walk.
I spent most of the day updating our budget, paying bills, creating financial statements, pretending it was tax season.
Spent the evening watching a prerecorded football game. Go Eagles!
Retired Life. Tuesday.
All the wonderful things that happened today, via pictures:
- The FedEx dude brought us a bag of dog food.
- Frivvy was happy when he saw the dog food. (Yes, that is his happy face. OK. Maybe his "content" face.) To him it means he gets to keep living with us for another bag of food.
- I did the dishes. And it is the first time since before Thanksgiving that ALL the dishes were done up. Hanna has been on quite the baking kick for the holiday.
- It was "old people need groceries" day where we did up the plan, menu, grocery list and went and got them. But not until after we had lunch and Rummy at Red Tail. The lunch lasted longer than usual because we got talking about our old clients. In particular, we shared stories about how we both have been hit on by them. And the one couple that was so obnoxious and arrogant that I finally got up and walked out of the appointment. Fun memories.
- While out, we found two new Geocaches that someone hid in Rockford. Frivvy loves caching and even obediently sat to have his picture taken.
- Hanna bought a Christmas Light hat for her, but she shared it with Frivvy. He looks thrilled. Obediently sitting again.
- All our Thanksgiving Lights have now turned into Christmas Lights, including the manger scene. Cool shadow on the house.
Retired folks have quite the life.
Retired Life. Wednesday. Hanna's Birthday!!
Insignificant things that I did today: Emptied, cleaned, and refilled the hot tub. Filled the water storage container with water until it leaked so I would know exactly where the leak was so I can repair it at some point. (I marked it this time.)
Significant things that happened today:
And then we went out to Beverly's at the CDA Resort for a very nice dinner, overlooking Lake CDA and all the boardwalk Christmas Lights. We both had Elk Chops with French Onion Soup and Hummus for appetizer. Smore and Chocolate Something for dessert. Yummy!
Hanna was happy to get a birthday bouquet of flowers on the way home.
61 down. Here's to dozens more years to go!
Retired Life. Friday.
You know, we just start thinking we have this retired stuff down, and then we get thrown for another loop and have to start learning all over again. This whole "lumping all things in town into one day" may not be working so well. We did that yesterday. We got up at 6:30, went to town, and didn't get back home until late evening. We got a lot of stuff done. But, we were all exhausted this morning. We slept in later than we thought. Barely made it to Harvester in time (on the back roads) to get breakfast (almost had to settle for lunch), came back home, agreed that we were exhausted and needed naps, so did so. I figured 15-20 minutes would refresh me. No. We woke up almost two hours later. I then took Frivvy for his walk.........and then it was dark out. Just like that.
"Wasted days like that used to bother me bad before retirement. All those clients to keep happy. So much work to be done. Gotta make payroll every week. Gotta pay bills. You can't take down time. But today when it happens, I freak a little bit still, but then go "oh heck, I'll still be retired tomorrow. It don't matter. I can do stuff tomorrow." Fun times.
We did manage to go out and put up some Christmas Lights on the back deck. Got them up. They would not light up. Disappointing because these are the fancy expensive ones and I've never had a problem with them. We dropped the only fuse we had and it's gone in the grass below somewhere. So no lighting of lights tonight. The Amazon dude will magically bring us a new fuse tomorrow.
For date night, I made up some delicious BBQ ribs and we watched "Stagecoach", the 1939 thriller starring a very young John Wayne. It was a hoot and a great movie!
Retired Life. Saturday.
Big happenings today.... The Amazon Dude did deliver fuses for the lights on the balcony. I installed the new fuse and YES! LIGHTS! We also, out in the freezing rain, put up the rest of the lights. On the front porch, tree on the swing set, and also fastened the deck lights more securely.
It was too slick out to go do anything else, so we watched a couple of shows in the evening. Heartland is one of our favorites. Perfect for old people like us.
The question of the day is this. We ordered like six replacement fuses. Where do we keep them so we'll remember we have them and know where to find them next year? For all we know, we bought some last year but don't remember doing so and if we did, have no idea where we put them....... Old people issues.....
