Christmas Party 12-21-24
Retired Life. Sunday.
The alarm went off while it was still dark outside (which ain't saying much, really) so that we could make it to church on time. We looked at the below Jesus Picture, remembered why church makes us happy, and got up and got going.
After church, (and a nap) we visited Hanna's Mom and brought her in the Sacrament.
I tried to fix the star on the Christmas Tree, but soon after, it was leaning out the other way. What's with that??
Retired Life. Monday.
It was a snowy day out. So, we followed Frivvy's fine example and spent most of the day indoors. And on the couch.
We did run to town to pick up another prescription.
In the evening, we watched a prerecorded football game. Colorado vs Kansas St.
Glad to be retired so we can have down days like this.
The star is leaning towards me now. Not sure how that happens...
Retired Life. Tuesday.
Go get grub day.
We planned our busy week. Created yummy menu. Prepared an organized shopping list. Drove to Red Tail in Worley. (Came across some sort of red metal creature in the road....alien??). Played Rummy. Ate delicious salads. Bought cheap Idaho gas. Drove to Plummer. Raining too hard to hike on the trail (poor Frivvy was sad). Bought a ton of groceries. Drove back home. (It was snowing good over the pass.) Unloaded. Unpacked.
I had a bit of time to pay bills. And then we watched a couple of shows.
Tonight the tree on the star was pointing right towards the TV. What's the meaning of that??
Retired Life. Wednesday.
If you live around here, you know a huge, deadly even, wind storm blew in in the early morning hours. See my US flag whipping like crazy below. Later in the day, the flag disappeared. The force of the wind sheared the metal bracket into two separate parts and the flag dropped down into the back yard. Sadly, we won't be flying a US flag for a while until I can get around to putting up a new one. Goal: Before Memorial Day. Especially before Flag Day.
Life with cancer. Hanna woke up with a fever. This alarms cancer doctors. I am under strict orders to call the cancer clinic if she ever has a fever. (Because the chemo drugs lower her immune system...diseases thus spread faster and are harder for her body to combat, unless the disease is blood cancer.) So, first thing, we made the call and they told us to come in. And soon we were on our way to Urgent Care. The cheery staff there examined her, diagnosed a sinus infection, gave her a bunch of medicines, and sent her on her way. That resulted in a drive to Spokane to the pharmacy, and then back home.
Since we are leaving on a 5-day road trip tomorrow, we both took the rest of the day off and rested, took naps, read, watched some shows.
Except for the dishes. I did up a lot of dishes. Hanna has been doing a lot of baking the past while and I have a hard time keeping up with the dishes.
We were treated to a really sweet sunset. See the picture.
And, tonight the tree on the star was dangling upside down. Not sure what that is about or how it happens. Frivvy? Wind coming in somehow? The cat? Some sort of mysterious Elf on the Shelf? Santa himself? Such a mystery...
Retired Life. Thursday.
Road Trip!! The goal was to make it half-way to Pocatello, our final destination. Deer Lodge, where we had a nice Airbnb waiting. Now that we are retired, we travel slow and leasurely (and safely for us old people), doing so only during daylight hours and only 4-5 hours of driving per day.
We were up when the sun came up. See the sunrise from our front door. It was a clear and dry day, great for traveling. We stopped in CDA to fill up with gas. We stopped at the rest area near Lookout Pass for a potty break. Frivvy was amazed at the snow. And there was a snowman and a snow fort there. Somewhere on a remote exit in the middle of nowhere in the mountains of Montana, we met up with our niece and her boyfriend traveling to Spokane from BYU. Great timing and planning! We stopped for our sack lunches at St Regis. (Didn't spend any money there. Miraculous!!) Another potty break somewhere after Missoula. And then arrived in Deer Lodge just in time for its awesome sunset.
Frivvy enjoys exploring new digs and he had a blast this evening. When in Montana, one must order up a steak dinner, thus we did. Delicious! And enough to have leftover steak and eggs for breakfast tomorrow.
This is a great Airbnb. Very comfortable and roomy and warm. We choose Airbnbs when we can because we like bringing and cooking our own foods and save the eating out to once a day. Plus Frivvy enjoys the extra room and usually a great yard to play in too.
Retired Life. Friday.
Today we drove from Deer Lodge to Pocatello. Once there, we ran to the store to get some stuff we need for tomorrow, bought some dinner, and that was our day.
So, how does Frivvy travel? Very well. He always makes himself at home. Before letting him loose on the furniture in an Airbnb, we cover it with sheets. And in the new Airbnb tonight, he was really excited! He found another dog's squeaky toy under the couch that had been left behind!
Retired Life. Saturday.
We started the day by worshipping in the beautiful Pocatello Temple. Always a great way to start out a day.
Next was the annual Stewart - Bartlett Christmas Party. See the pictures below of the marshmallow game. This is a traditional Scottish Christmas game played by the Stewart clan for centuries in their castles. Seriously!
In the evening, those of us who drove from out of town got together to have some grub at that Fancy Like restaurant.
Great day to visit with family. Merry Christmas!
