11.1.25 Missionaries Everywhere...., BEAR!!
Retired/Missionary Life. Sunday.
Our day:
- Attend Sacrament Meeting.
- Attend Men's Meeting.
- Attend Missionary Correlation Meeting. (We now have EIGHT missionaries serving in this congregation. 13 between the two Spanish Congregations in the Spokane Area.)
- Ate sack lunch in the truck while the boys watched closely.
- Had a lesson not work out.
- Taught one other lesson to a very cool family that will worship in the temple soon.
- Back at home, read, watched some church videos, and FORGOT to take a nap. Sigh.........
- Leftovers for dinner.
- Worked on the Housing Steward Assignments.
- Watched an Episode of Heartland. Cash every where.
Hope your Sabbath was fulfilling and restful.
Retired/Missionary Life. Monday.
Then most of the rest of the day was spent on making Steward Assignments. 193 young missionaries living in 61 apartments being inspected by 14 Stewards. I assign the Stewards apartments primarily based on geographics.
Also, it was announced last week that our mission will, next summer, be split into two missions thus creating the Idaho CDA mission. Leading up to that, we will have 80 more missionaries assigned to our mission. 40 will live on the WA side and 40 on the ID side, preparatory for the split. And that comes out to about 20 more apartments at least. The Housing Coordinator had a panicked look on his face tonight. And we will need more Stewards too. Hang onto your hats, THE WORK IS HASTENING!!!
In the evening we ran in to town, which we now seem to do EVERY DAY. Picked up the groceries. Dropped off white shirts at the cleaners. Went to a dinner with all the other Senior Missionaries in the mission. And received a lesson afterwards.
Back home, we had a mission-wide Family Home Evening Zoom call where some of the missionaries that will go home soon bore testimony of their work.
Pictures below:
- Frivvy many times lays on his belly to eat. Worthy of a picture...
- Being taught at the Senior Missionary Meeting tonight. Theme: "Use the unlikely to do the impossible" or something like that. A quote from President Nelson's book.
- A picture from yesterday's Missionary Council Meeting. These are the AWESOME missionaries (and missionaries to be) that serve in our congregation with us.
Retired/Missionary Life. Tuesday.
Frivvy is not spoiled. Seriously... But he does enjoy breakfast in bed.
District Council with the other missionaries that serve in our District was first up. The highlight was <drum roll> Frivvy and Gussy! We very well could be the only missionaries in the entire world that serve with puppies! (Blessings of a "serve-from-home mission.)
We had a lesson set up right after the meeting, but it cancelled. Sad.
We had lunch at Jenny's. Club Sandwich with Potato Salad. Chef Salad. Included a couple rounds of Book of Mormon Playing Cards Rummy.
We then drove to Liberty Lake for a blood draw for Hanna which didn't happen because the order wasn't received. Or was lost. Or who knows what. A call to the doctor did not fix anything. He insisted we come in to his office and pick up a paper copy of the order and take that in. Sigh...................our medical system is broke. End of story.
Went to the mission office to pick up some supplies for our Stewards. The new Finance Missionary drives a banana colored JEEP renegade. And she apparently loves ducks. So, now when I get a duck (which totally emasculates my JEEP) I have someone to give it to...
Spent an hour or so parked at the church doing our studies. And then went to our 5 lesson. No bueno. No one answered the door. Hope they are OK. And then we went to our Spanish Tutor for our weekly Spanish Lesson.
And, below that, are pictures of us from last night's Senior Missionary Dinner and meeting. Enjoy! (We are a cute couple, right?)
Retired/Missionary Life. Wednesday.
Annie the cat really is the boss, regardless of the size of the dogs. Here she is taking over and sleeping in Frivvy's Kennel. He waits nicely for her to exit so he can go to bed. And he's clearly annoyed.
In addition to studying and all that jazz, this morning I did a lot of cooking. Sausage and Eggs for breakfast and then a batch of BBQ Bacon Meatloaf for dinner. Before and after shots below. (Those are onions and garlic on the griddle...)
Late afternoon, we put on our Missionary Clothes and headed for town. We performed an emergency "needs to be done now to get the award before I go home" inspection of some Sisters' apartment. Then went to the lesson we had scheduled. It ended up rescheduling due to a conflict. So, we stopped by two other homes of congregation members to see how they are doing and were well greeted and received. (This may be because Hanna brought brownies.....)
The last stop was in Idaho, so we topped off with cheap gas before coming home.
And here, have a picture, obviously created by AI, of a bear wearing Bear's jersey in the endzone. I post this to celebrate a team that never gives up and overcomes obstacles. Some are amazed at last Saturday's game. Down by 14 points and EVERY aspect of the game going to heck. Nothing was going right. And then turning things around and screaming out to a 14 point win after outscoring the opponent 31-3 down the stretch. How does a team do this? Well, over half the team served two-year missions. Missionaries learn how to overcome obstacles, do tough things, work as a team, and never, ever give up. Put a bunch of them together on the same team, and, well, you get 31-3 coming down the stretch...
Retired/Missionary Life. Thursday.
We had a morning appointment in Green Bluff to train a new Steward Couple. The exciting thing there was the Suicidal Deer Sign near their driveway.
Picked up a lab order at the doctor's, picked up white shirts at the cleaners, then listened to a Mission-wide Zoom call regarding stress, anxiety and depression. (How to overcome it, not how to get it...). Then we met the missionaries that serve in our congregation with us at Denny's for a lively lunch. Great guys and gals. One of the new Elders owns three old JEEPs and we talked quite a bit about our JEEPs. They had to greet Frivvy and Gus before leaving to go to work...
Next up was worshipping in our temple. I took pictures both before and after and couldn't decide which looked better, so I posted both. Enjoy!
And I posted a picture of Idaho gas prices vs Washington gas prices for those that want to do the math.
Evening was when we ended up doing our studies today.
More adventures tomorrow no doubt...
Retired/Missionary Life. Friday.
We slept in. It felt good. We've been running at a fast pace. Plus we are retired and sleep, lots of sleep, is a huge part of retirement. And even Senior Missions.
We planned on not leaving the house no matter what because we seem to just run around a lot. But, we noticed Hanna had never found a cache on October 31st before, so off we went to find a cache in Rockford. She can now say she has found a cache on every day of the year.
Gussy enjoyed watching her celebrate. And we went for a walk in the cemetery afterwards and drove the scenic route home. (Woo Hoo Marsh Rd........wait. Can it even be called a road???)
We did our studies. Got some chores done. And watched a pre-recorded football game. (Iowa State and BYU...great comeback.)
The Highland's camera caught a deer. And I included a picture ( a day late) of the scenic drive yesterday to the new Steward's house up at Green Bluff. Enjoy!
Retired/Missionary Life. Saturday.
Here! Have a picture of me fighting cancer six years ago! (Seriously. That IS me. Google it.) Thanks to many prayers, faith, and incredibly trained medical professionals, I have been cancer-free since this date six years ago. (That's what we do in this household, fight and beat cancer. WARRIORS!!!!)
And a plug. If you are a male over 40, get checked annually for Prostate Cancer. Thousands die needlessly from it every year. It is easily treatable if detected early. Getting "checked" means getting a PSA test. It's a simple and inexpensive blood test. Get it done now.
Also, today open enrollment begins for me. I now qualify for Medicare, a true sign of old age. Woo Hoo!!!
Old people go out to breakfast day. And eat so much that we skip lunch. This is awesome because I thus get a break from cooking breakfast and Hanna gets a break from fixing lunches. Red Tail Breakfast Buffet. Yum!
Afterwards, we filled up with cheap Idaho gas and took the boys for a walk on the Trail of the CDAs. In the rain. They didn't seem to mind getting super wet. And they took over the love seat to dry off and warm up when we got home.
In the evening, the grandkids and Justin showed up for dinner. We put them to work. Assembling the new Ice Cream Maker. Making the Ice Cream. (They picked Caramel flavored ice cream this time.) And making up a batch of homemade mac n cheese. Add burgers and the meal was complete.
We did watch the last few innings of the world series. I needed a good nap..............Sorry baseball fans. I've never been able to get into it. Not enough action, strategy, teamwork. It's like watching different guys shoot myriad of free throws over and over again. I tried. And when it went into extra innings, I'd had enough and I left to do something else.
