Retired/Missionary Life. Monday.
Preparation and Recreation Day.
Old people must eat. So.....you know the drill....we planned out our scrumptious week, created a busy menu, fixed a shopping list, drove to Rockford and had Salads at Harvest Moon (includes playing Rummy with Book of Mormon Playing Cards), drove to Worley and filled up with cheap Idaho, drove to Plummer (which included driving thru the actual town of Worley where we saw where the car of kids driving 133 mph went airborn and landed on top of the Worley Liquor Store) and purchased the groceries, walked on the Trail of the CDAs (in the rain), drove home, unloaded, unpacked.
I also paid bills, prepared a lesson, dealt with a ton of Housing Steward Communications, and watched (or at least started to) a prerecorded football game. (BYU at Arizona OT game). Mission-wide Zoom Meeting at 9. And now the day is complete.
Here! Have a picture of what the CDA Temple is going to look like. And also a cool sunset on the way home from Plummer.
Retired/Missionary Life. Tuesday.
First up was District Council Meeting. They taught us a lesson on Obedience and another on how to Teach like Jesus taught. In between, each companionship got up and gave a report as to how things were going for them and presented a challenge which we all brainstormed. It's always a great and uplifting experience to be with these younger missionaries!
Of course, the best part was them mobbing Frivvy and Gus afterwards. Coolest mission dogs ever! (Wait! Is it against mission rules to kiss a dog?? Look close............)
Our first lesson rescheduled, which gave us more time in town. We picked up a few groceries we needed, checked on Hanna's Mom's house, took the boys for a walk on the Centennial Trail (it was really nice out and colorful too!), ate sack lunches, did our studying in the truck at the church, then went to another lesson in the evening. Great spirit there as we taught about the Mission of Jesus Christ.
Got back in a bit early, so we watched the BYU game while eating leftovers for dinner. Did a bit of computer work stuff.
And now I'm going to go look for some Northern Lights.
Here! Have a picture of a deer at the Highlands! We haven't seen the Bull Elk since the last day of hunting season. Hmmmmmm........
Retired/Missionary Life. Wednesday.
In the afternoon we ran to town to a meeting at the Title Company. There Hanna signed the paperwork selling the family farm for her mom's estate. She looked pretty professional...
And I was confused by the sign by the toilet. If all you can flush is toilet paper, then why do you even use the toilet?????
Afterwards we ate sack lunches in the church parking lot and then went out to find some folks to teach. Got to talk to several nice folks and did teach one lesson on the spot. We feel like we did some good. Missionary work at its finest!
Finally, here! Have a deer at the Highlands! Is it the same one from yesterday or whenever it was??
Retired/Missionary Life. Thursday.
Today was set aside for Mission Housing business. This included inspecting two apartments, one in Bonners Ferry and one in Libby, virtually. Virtual or not, it is always a fun and uplifting experience to mingle with the younger missionaries. It also included filing some reports, Emailing the Housing Coordinator some information, taking several Emails, texts and calls from the Stewards who were out getting apartments inspected, etc.
In the afternoon, we had time to do some projects around the house. Like, today I applied for Medicare. Yes! I really look forward to the Government managing my medical care...
Below are a few pictures. Nice sunrise. Frivvy and Gussy hanging out in our spots while we do virtual inspections. And Frivvy and Gussy resting after their walk.
Oh the life of a Golden Retriever!
Retired/Missionary Life. Friday.
Took the boys for a walk in the Cemetery. Quiet and peaceful there. We all enjoyed it.
In the afternoon, our only granddaughter that lives in the area came over for a sleepover to celebrate her birthday. Grandma Hanna helped her make a skirt, made cookies, read books, painted, and generally had fun.
Retired/Missionary Life. Saturday.
We had a sweet evening worshipping in the temple. A member of our congregation that we have been teaching went to the temple for the first time and made covenants with the Lord. It was incredibly powerful to be there with her. "You have helped our family be together forever..." Great day to be a missionary.
The rest of the day was spent in celebrating our granddaughter's birthday. Lots of fun. She has Hanna's genes. Hanna and her created a detailed checklist of the things they wanted to do and she dutifully checked it off, one item at a time. Made cookies. Swung. Tried on Grandma's cool braces. Made a skirt, which included organizing the pins.
