Happy Halloween 11-2-24
Retired Life. Sunday.
The alarm went off at ............6AM!!! Argh! So we could be on time for church. We stayed up late watching the ending of the Coug Game last night (Go Cougs!!) and were really really tired. But, we took a look at the Jesus Picture below, remembered why church makes us happy, and got up and got ready for church.
Young Men's Leader meeting where we discussed the upcoming Winter Campout I am in charge of. Sacrament Meeting. Men's Meeting. Meeting with our awesome Bishop. Once back at home, I fixed an egg sandwich for lunch. We took the Sacrament to Hanna's Mom. And then we took one of the longest naps known to mankind. (It ain't called the day of rest for nothing, right?)
Once no longer comatose, we read, watched some church videos, ate leftover stew, and got ready to go back to bed and rest some more.
Old retired folks need a lot of rest.
Here, have a picture of me in a mostly empty church at 7:28am, all ready for my meeting. (I may or may not have been sleeping...)
Retired Life. Monday.
Hanna had never before found a Geocache on the 28th of October, so off we went in the JEEP to find one. That was the best part of Frivvy's day.
Back at home, we planted several hundred tulip, daffodil, and other bulbs so our yard will look colorful next spring. This was a team effort. Since my back doesn't like bending over, I would dig a hole with the shovel. And then Hanna, since she can't walk, would plant the bulb in the hole. It really didn't take us as long as we thought it would.
Once it got dark, I did up the books, paid the bills, and even worked on the Missionary Application Stuff.
In the evening, we watched a prerecorded football game. WSU beating up on San Diego State. GO COUGS!!
Retired Life. Tuesday.
I slept in. Because as a retired person I can do that and no one really cares. Then I fixed up some ham and eggs for breakfast. And then I took a nap. Because I was tired already and again, no one really cares.
Since we are running to town 3 of the next 4 days and have company coming in on the 4th day, we decided to skip buying groceries today and just stay home so we could get some yard work done. (And take naps). So, in the evening we planned our week, made a menu, created a grocery list, and then ordered it on-line to be picked up tomorrow while we are in CDA. They don't have the same dog food that Frivvy usually gets, so he'll get to try something new for now.
Chilled and watched a show after that. Kind of like taking a nap, but not really.
See how AI portrayed me spreading weed n feed. And tonight's Palouse sunset.
Retired Life. Wednesday.
You know, sometimes I think I really don't know how I had time for a job all those years...I guess if we took the dozens of medical appointments out of our lives, yup, we could have a job again.
We spent most of today in CDA. We started with lunch at Jimmy's, which always comes with a complimentary US flag. Then Hanna had her appointment back at the prosthetics/PT place to be casted for new leg braces. The old ones, which they glued back together a couple of weeks ago, broke already. She's just way too active. So they are going to build her new, more durable ones. Frivvy and I waited in the truck and read a Patterson/Alex Cross book.
We picked up the grocery order. Safeway is so cool, they even give us a breakdown, nutritiously, of what we ordered. Interesting stuff for accountants.
Topped off with cheap Idaho gas, then back home.
There's also a picture from the Stewart Highlands from last week. Delayed because the camera is almost dead. We need to run up there again soon and fix that issue. But, see the Wild Golden Retriever that was roaming the place!
Earlier this week, I posted on a friend's page that we talk finances daily. We laughed about that today and figured it is fairly accurate. But just to see, as dutiful accountants that count things and keep track of things, we're going to keep track of it and see how we do.
And so, today's exciting financial discussion was on Medicare Advantage Plans vs Medicare Supplement Plans, pros and cons of each. True love......right?
Thursday Retired Life. Or something like that.
We spent all day in Spokane this time.
First up, Dentist for us both. I'm still unclear if Hanna schedules us in at the same time because she considers getting your teeth cleaned together as some sort of date or if it is in the name of efficiency. I'm sure she'll clarify. Either way, old people must have their teeth checked regularly (along with every other part of their bodies.)
Worshipped in the temple. Definitely a date.
Tacos. Date.
And then were so tired once we got home that we just zoned out and watched a show. (Date)
Today's Exciting Financial Discussion (could be considered a quick date?): Two of them. Go figure! A while ago we switched our cell phone plan to the BYU Alumni Discount Plan and we got Emailed a bill today. Hanna audited it to make sure we were charged the right amount, plus tax, and then had me take a look at it too just in case. Then we gloated about how smart we are on that, saving around $150 a month for the exact same service we had before. Then #2, the dental office offers a discount if you write a check rather than using a debit card. We had a real brief discussion about "is the discount worth the effort to write the check?" and decided that yes, it is. Exciting form of intimacy we have going!
See the picture. First snow of the year on Mica Peak, the mountains near our home. Winter will be here soon!
Retired Life. Friday.
Today I can say I have been cancer-free for FIVE YEARS!! Thanks to great medical care and tons of prayers, I am still here. Tens of thousands of men die of Prostate Cancer every year. Most of those deaths could be prevented by early detection. If you are 40 or older, request a PSA test from your doctor. It is a simple blood test. It ain't expensive. It could save your life.
In addition to celebrating life, we also tended a couple of our grandkids while their parents went to worship in the temple. The grandson is in the process of being potty trained, so his dutiful parents sent us text messages and also gave us detailed verbal instructions on how this was to be carried out. When they were leaving, they wished us "good luck" and I responded "all nine of our kids are potty trained...we have a pretty decent record!" Our son looked really baffled at that comment.
Pictures below include an actual picture of me five years ago battling cancer. And one of how tired Frivvy (and Hanna and I too) were just after the kids left. Time for a nap.
Today's exciting financial discussion was us talking about how the credit card company threatened to charge us $35 per month if we didn't go paperless and promised to Email me every month when the on-line statement was ready and how no Email came this month. Lucky we didn't pay it late...especially with our memories.
Retired Life. Saturday.
Upon getting out of bed, we declared it "old people go to breakfast" day and we headed to Worley. And it's Saturday, so it was a breakfast buffet at Red Tail! Yum! Just how many Egg Benedicts can one old man eat anyhow?
Cheap gas in Idaho was purchased.
Then off to town where we joined Del and Ella for a dinner of pizza and burgers and good conversation about life. They've been replacing all their Christmas Decorations that they lost in the fire and are having a ton of fun doing so.
Back home, bummed because all of our favorite football teams are on bye at the same time today, we watched an episode of Friday Night Lights to make up for it.
Today's Entertaining Financial Discussion was sharing stories about our clients that got busted for paying their apparent employees under the table. (aka tax fraud) How one very successful pole-barn company ended up in bankruptcy after the State Unemployment, L&I and the IRS got done with them. Sad times, but one must obey the laws of the land.
