3.14.26 Drugs!! Snow! Lazy dogs. Staying Alive. Snow.
Retired/Missionary Life. Sunday.
HAPPY SABBATH!! Here! Have a Jesus Picture! He LOVES YOU!
For some reason, the alarm seemed to be going off earlier than usual and it felt like we missed an entire hour of sleep.....
Sacrament Meeting. Men's Meeting. Missionary Correlation Meeting. Ate sack lunches in the truck in the church parking lot while Gussy and Frivvy watched closely. Taught a lesson on the temple to a really neat family. Drove home, logging eight hours since we left there.
A nap was next. Then the evening was spent reading, watching church videos, cleaning up the kitchen a bit, eating leftovers, and studying Spanish.
That's all folks! Except now it seems like an hour too early to be going to bed already............
Retired/Missionary Life. Monday.
I woke up extra early and in time to see the windy sunrise. Even took a picture! Enjoy!
Today was Revlimid Day. The day we ground ourselves to the house to receive Hanna's cancer cell killing chemo pills that must be signed for. Dilemna though!! She woke up with a case of Pink Eye. Did a Telehealth Zoom Call with a Christian Health Care Ministries Doctor who did the diagnosis and ordered antibiotics. Fortunately, shortly thereafter, the FedEx guy showed up. No more being grounded. And then we took the unexpected run into town to get more drugs. The pharmacy had four other prescriptions ready for her. So, that is six total for the day. NEW WORLD RECORD!! The life of a cancer caretaker.
We spent the evening watching a prerecorded football game. Virginia vs Duke Championship OT Game. Well worth watching.
And before going to bed, we attended the weekly mission-wide Zoom call where we listened to some departing missionaries testify and received counsel and admonition from our Mission Leaders.
etired/Missionary Life. Tuesday.
IT SNOWED LAST NIGHT!! And Gussy immediately got really excited and rolled in it!
- District Council Missionary Meeting where we brainstormed solutions for challenges we are all having and were taught a couple of lessons.
- Sack lunch in the church parking lot in the truck while Gus and Frivvy watched closely.
- Went for a walk (there was sleet falling from the sky for part of it...) on the Centennial Trail.
- Taught a lesson to a gentleman who is preparing for baptism.
- Picked up groceries.
- "Listened" to the last part of the BYU game since it wasn't on TV.
That's all folks!
Retired/Missionary Life. Wednesday.
It was (still is) nasty out all day. So we stayed in. Didn't even leave to take a walk. Sleet. Snow. Rain. High winds. Ugh.
But there were exciting things to do at home:
- Taco Omelettes for breakfast.
- Helped Hanna hang up some curtains.
- Changed the filter on the CPAP.
- Made some medical calls and set up some doctor appointments.
- Broke a huge package of bacon into double serving sizes and put in the freezer for future use.
- Updated the family budget. (It appears we won't outlive our funds.....and important concept for retired folks.)
- Trimmed the boys' nails. Or at least tried to. Got the front paws done anyway. Then they got too excited.
- Sent out an Email to the Mission Stewards.
- Shopped for birthday gifts for our grandson. (I'm jealous, I may need to get one of those for me!)
- Watched a couple of basketball games. Live even.
I think the wind is going to try to keep us up all night.........

Retired/Missionary Life. Thursday.
"Keep Hanna Alive Day!" All of us old folks, missionaries or not, need lots of "Stay Alive" days....
- The alarm went off way too early. The wind was still blowing. We saw a cool picture of yet another truck blown over, this time south of Moscow (the one in Idaho.) Or perhaps it was a result of both the Men and Women's Basketball teams winning the Big Sky Championships! In Pullman they burn couches, in Moscow, they push over big trucks, right? We quizzed our kids and no one had any significant damage. Some lost power. Others were dealing with noisy kids at home because there was no school.
- First up was Hanna's PET Scan to check for cancer cells. (Appears none were found, but the doctor will confirm that at a later date.) I spent the two hours in the truck reading and listening to Gus and Frivvy snore away.
- Afterwards, we went to Corbin Park and walked along the river and ate our sack lunches in the truck while the boys watched closely.
- After lunch, Hanna got her usual monthly infusion, including two blood draws to make sure she was healthy enough for said infusion. (She was.) She is proud of the fact that she was poked by needles four times today.
- We filled up with cheap Idaho Gas. (3.32 per gallon)
- We had dinner at Conley's with the Sister Missionaries we serve with. Always a treat! (Conleys AND the Sisters.)
- Finally, we ran up to the hospital to minister to Del's dad who had surgery this morning. Del and I gave him a blessing so he would have a speedy, pain-free recovery. He was in good cheer and doing well. It was an honor to serve with Del in this manner. Our daughter married well!
- And in final conclusion, here! Have a cool picture of the Idaho Falls Temple, the temple of my youth, and also of a deer in the snow at the Highlands. Enjoy!
Retired/Missionary Life. Friday.
SNOW!!
It was snowing when we got up and snowed all day long. The boys turned white after being outside for just a couple of minutes. So, we stayed home! I spent time removing snow from our deck with my cool electric snowblower and clearing the driveway with my trusty John Deere tractor. FUN TIMES!!
When that was all done, I tackled the project list.
- Tested, reset the electric dog fence. (Gussy got out a few days ago and spent time proudly napping in the neighbors yard...)
- Dusted the entire house top to bottom.
- Adjusted the flag spot lights so they actually turn off when the sun comes up and don't come on until the sun goes down.
- Repaired and topped off the hot tub. The cover was damaged from the wind storm.
- Yea, and there were probably a few other things too. I pulled out our taxes long enough to look at them, say "we still a few more weeks" and put them back away.
- In the evening, we watched the last of our Football-themed movies, "We Are Marshall." One of the best true-life, overcome huge obstacles, gut-wrenching movies out there, football or not. A must see...
Retired/Missionary Life. Saturday.
Woo Hoo!!! Old folks go to breakfast day!!! We went over to The Harvester for a Palouse Omelette and Corn beef with Eggs. Best part is I didn't have to cook it!
We had a little bit of time after that to do a few things around the house. Like Snow Blow off the deck again, clean up the kitchen, do up the weekly missionary planner, write some Emails....
And then we went to town and worshipped in the temple. We were there to see one of the Young Men from my prior congregation go thru the temple for the first time. Always a pleasure to see these young men making great decisions. And there were lots of folks there that we knew and miss.
