2.21.26 Anne. Savannah. Where the heck's the plane? Snow.
Retired/Missionary Life. Sunday.
HAPPY SABBATH!! Here! Have a Jesus Picture. He LOVES YOU!
From Atlanta........
- We found a Spanish Congregation that meets about 30 minutes South of where we are staying, so made the drive (in a major downpour) to worship there in Spanish. Very friendly folks! Made us homesick.
- Lunch. Nap.
- Then we went over to spend the rest of the day with the grandkids. We played some games and watched a couple of movies. I hung out with my favorite Chihuahua, Kobe. He's about as old as me. And the grandkids indoctrinated us into K-Pop Demon Fighters. It was actually a pretty good flick.
- Bonus picture of Gus going for a ride in a red Tesla. He always has to be seeing out. Frivvy no doubt is napping in the back seat, his favorite thing to do...
Retired/Missionary Life. Monday.
- We drove from Atlanta to Savannah, about 4 hours. We saw tons of traffic and were welcomed into Savannah by a huge cow wearing a hat.
- Our granddaughter, who is studying biology at Georgia Southern, went to lunch with us at Culvers. Our first time there. The burger was about average, but the Custard was incredible. And it was great to see her again.
- We went to a park/lake and found a Geocache, because it was 64 out and its what we do.
- We walked the River and saw cool stuff, like a huge bridge and several boats. Romantic sunset walk.
- And here, have a picture of the boys exploring their own new park.
Retired/Missionary Life. Tuesday.
Today's main project was to somehow make it home. FAIL!! Here we sit in Minneapolis. That is as far as we made it.
Today's adventures:
- To make this a bonafide southern experience, we went out to breakfast at Waffle House. The grits were delicious!
- We took a walk in Forsyth Park. And saw a herd of White Golden Retrievers.
- At the airport, all calamity hit. Huge delay. Missed connections. More delays. And more delays. We made the best of it. Ate some airport food. Played some Book of Mormon Rummy. Ate some ice cream. Finally, about the time we were supposed to arrive, we took off. But, we got to Minneapolis so late, there were no flights to catch. Delta put us up for the night and gave us food vouchers. We'll try again tomorrow. Saw a great sunset though.
- And a picture of a huge critter at the HIghlands.
Retired/Missionary Life. Wednesday.
The goal today, as you might expect, was to make it home. SUCCESS!
- Hanna was excited when we arrived at the airport and there was actually a plane at the gate and the gate said "Spokane".
- Rainy takeoff from Minneapolis. But we made it.
- We felt pretty cool flying over our hometown, Fairfield.
- After getting home and having a great reunion with Gussy and Frivvy, we turned around and took Hanna back to town for a Church Women's Social. And that is when it started to snow.
- Last picture. This is a picture of this transfer's Spanish District. Right after our final meeting. Transfers are in process right now. If I'm reading things right, no one is leaving the District, but several new missionaries will be joining us! We love these young missionaries. And they are having soooo much success!
Retired/Missionary Life. Thursday.
Guys! We mostly stayed home today! It was nice to not have much going on and to catch up on some things around the house. And rest from that nasty jet lag.
The highlight really was receiving a delivery of groceries from Amazon Prime/ Grub Hub/ Safeway / Instacart. Yes. It took four companies to make a delivery to Fairfield possible. We'll use this often and save time running to town.
In the evening, we ventured off in a blizzard to fulfill our missionary gig. Teach someone.......or find someone to teach. We dropped in on a couple of families to check on them and invite them to church. And then drove back home in the blizzard. Just after 9, we had a District Missionary Zoom call. It appears our Spanish District has grown by 4 or 5 missionaries! The work is hastening!
Retired/Missionary Life. Friday.
My birthday. The big SIX FIVE. When I was younger, I figured most people were dead by 65. Now I'm there. I must be near the end, right? Actually, I probably have at least two, maybe three decades left.
So how did I celebrate:
- It was 12 degrees out when I got up. So cold that my cool electric snow blower that I use on the deck would not run. I had to bring it in the house. Once the ice inside it melted, it did the job. (Yes, I'm wearing PJs.....it's my birthday and I can do what I want!)
- The boys and I congregated on the love seats to watch some pre-recorded football. Real football. Not the type played for money. Two great FCS teams. S Dakota St vs Montana St. It went into double OT. Great game.
- Hanna took me out to a fancy dinner at Maslow's. Shrimp Cocktail. Ribeye for me. Salmon for her. (That's water, not booze by the way...). Sweet desserts.
- Hanna has a Women's Church Social early tomorrow morning, so we are staying the night in town in an AirBnB. Easier than driving back in again in the morning after a short night.
- Thanks for all the Happy Birthday wishes!! Loves to all!!
Retired/Missionary Life. Saturday.
- Took Hanna to her all-morning Women's Church Meeting.
- Took the truck to have its oil changed.
- Just me for Old People Go To Breakfast Day at Denny's.
- Took the boys for a walk.
- Picked Hanna up.
- Put together a meal for Del and Ella. Ate and visited with them.
- Worshipped in the temple at the monthly Spanish Session.
- Dinner at that Fancy Place.
- Celebrated BYU's huge upset win. (My Bengals won too for once...)
