A Lot of Running Around 10-12-24

Retired Life. Sunday.
As retired folks, we can just take it easy any time we want and for as long as we want. That was today. We watched more of General Conference.
Exciting!! They announced plans to build a temple in Coeur d Alene! I asked AI to draw me a picture of what he (does AI even have a gender??) thinks it will look like and got the below. Also, I post a picture of Jesus' Second Coming because a lot of the talks invited us to prepare for that event. He'll probably come right after the civil war that everyone says we are about to have...

Other than that, we read, took naps, read some more, and well, took it easy.

Retired Life. Monday.
So, I saw this cool instructional PSA video on the internet that showed how much fun a dog will have if you put some treats in an egg carton, duct tape it shut, and give it to the dog. I tried it. Frivvy went ballistic ripping into it and loved it! But now he excitedly rips up every box he can find. I woke up this morning to the mess pictured below.
I spent a lot of time in the kitchen today. Bacon and left-over steak and eggs for breakfast. Morrocan Chicken Stew for dinner. And I spent some time in the office sorting thru bills and stuff. I got behind and don't think I'll ever get caught up.
In the evening, we watched a prerecorded football game. Apple Cup. Go Cougs!

Retired Life. Tuesday.
For several years now, we have acted like old people and complained to each other about how fast the vehicles travel by our house. Speed limit is 25. Very few pay any attention to it. There's a bus stop across from our house. Doesn't matter. Traffic still shoots by, sometimes by as much as 50. Finally, Hanna called the mayor. (Don't be too impressed. Our town has a population of 600, so calling the mayor really wasn't that big of deal.) And today, months later, in response, a new 25 mph sign appeared just down from our house. Hanna was so excited that she took a picture of it! We'll see if anyone pays any attention to it.
Today was grocery day. We planned our week (and it's a busy one, we'll only stay home one day out of the next seven days.) Made up yummy menus. Created grocery lists. Drove to Plummer. Ate Chef Salads, hers with Thousand, mine with Ranch (I also had rings and an order of warmed apple pie ala mode just because I felt like it and it's what retired folks do.) Filled up with cheap Idaho gas. Bought the groceries. Drove back home. Unloaded and unpacked.
Yes, the vast majority of our grocery list is found in the produce section...

Retired Life. Wednesday. Not staying home day #2.
Here, have a picture of this morning's sunrise. Nice. So, why were we up that early? Because we were going to the temple in Moses Lake to worship. We have enjoyed these other temples we have worshipped in (Winter Quarters, Billings, Moses Lake) but are excited to have our own temple back open next week and to go back to attending there.
After worship, we went to the diner for the usual salads.
During our travels, we came across a figurine of Trump made from hay bales. Gotta love the creativity of the Palouse Farmers!
Back at home, I took a nap and this evening we chilled and watched a couple of shows.
We like the freeness that retirement gives us of being able to take off and do things like drive to Moses Lake to worship.
We'll be up with the sunrise again tomorrow. Ugh! It's almost like being back at work. But not really...

Retired Life. Thursday. Day #3 of not staying home.
We were up early again. It's Hanna's blood draw, meet with the cancer doc, and infusion day and the appointment was earlier than usual. Everything went well. This will be Hanna's last dosage of bone strengthener. She's been on it for two years now. And the Doctor ordered up a bone density test for later in the afternoon to make sure she's ready. And then, just because we really don't need any days to just stay home, he also ordered a lung CT for Monday. Hanna has had a nasty cough for several months now and he wants to check for infections. So, to town we will run on Monday.
Both nurses working on Hanna attend our church and were way excited about the new temple coming to CDA. Both had speculation as to where it will be built. Both speculations revolved around north of Hayden. No one really knows for sure at this point. I think they ought to make it a lake front temple. Fun times.
See the picture below. Hanna received an IV infusion and an injection at the same time. Efficiency.
After the three hours at the Cancer Clinic, we went for salads at Elmers (Crab BLT Cobb Salad, hers with thousand, mine with Italian, yummy grub!), made a stop at Walmart to get some stuff for tomorrow's campout, stopped at Safeway to buy some stuff we can't get in Plummer, filled up with cheap Idaho gas, went back to Kootenai Health for the bone density test, then took Frivvy for a walk on the Centennial Trail east of CDA on the lake. He was happy. But still wouldn't settle for a decent selfie with me. Hey, I tried.
Back home, I took a nap, played basketball, did some reading, ate fried chicken which Hanna cooked up for me, and watched a show.
Long day. The nap was good and may very well be the highlight of retirement...

Retired Time. Friday and Saturday.
I combine two days because.....<drum roll> I was at CAMP BAIRD!!! Those of you who have been there know the deal. I've never taken anyone, adult or young man, to that camp that didn't immediately fall in love with it. (Oh. Two days combined because there is no cell service anywhere near Camp Baird. This is also another perk of camping there.) Hanna and I hosted some of the young men from our congregation, their dads, and other adult leaders there Friday night and Saturday. It was a "survival" themed camp....no matches...no tents...no water from home...no stoves. They slept in shelters, filtered water, used flint and steel, and cooked over the actual fire they built. Fun times!
Saturday, early, like about 7 or so, while it was still in the 30s out, I heard the familiar "plop splash" of the first boy going into the water. Brrrrr.... Crazy boys. They also tried out fishing, took my kayaks for a spin, and in the afternoon, they pulled out the guns and target shot for quite a while.
And then TRAGEDY STRUCK! While packing to go home, I noticed my cell phone was missing. I had last seen it at the gravel pit/shooting range where I had placed it on the back bumper of my truck after taking some pictures. We drove the 1/4 mile or so several times watching for it. No luck. We then drive down to near Ione where there was cell service. Called. Nothing. Used the "Where the heck's my phone?" app. No luck. (The phone must have cell service and be on for this to work.) Looked at my phone's last known location on Hanna's Google Maps. Showed somewhere near the Colville airport, where we last had signal. Dang. Drove back to Camp Baird, looked again. No luck. So, off we went home, no cell phone.
Most everything on it can be restored, except the cool pictures I had just taken at Camp Baird that day. Ugh. So, instead of cool Camp Baird Pictures, you get an AI produced image of my cell phone hiding in the grass somewhere along the side of an ATV trail. Enjoy.
Not all is lost. It was dinner time just as we got to Riverside, so The Ram it was for dinner! Yum!
